I just purchased a used 5 ft bar with no chain. Put it on 084 but :dizzy: it seems flimsy. I'm not familiar with these larger bars but it also has a rectangle shape cut out in nose for a helper hand thing. Is this necessary on a bar this size? Can someone who uses this size saw, other than on a mill, please educate me?

Run your chain snug or every time you turn the saw it will come off also they are very flexible If you look at the 6 foot white pine thread I had a 50 plus inch bar on that saw it actualy has 50 inch usible bar on that 660

Man O stihl, last month I used a 2101 Husky with a 50 inch bar (on a White
fir that took out about a dozen trees included a big old black oak.) and it was not really flimsy, but it would deflect easier than a normal bar if doing anything but straight bucking. It was an Oregon power match plus. HTH Dave. ps in places where the wood was kind of rotten there was a tendency for the fir to pull in chunks and get between the drive link side of the chain and the bar. Never happened in the oak at all.

I have 60" bars here on Homelite gear drives and 090's. Obviously they do have some flex but they are manageable. As already mentioned a loose chain will be a real problem. They must work as Stihl sold quite a few of the 59" Duromatics. I have one of those also.

big floppy blade

I have an old Pioneer with a 60in blade which takes a narrow chain, I think it is intended for slabbing where the kerf loss would be a factor.

used one last year on 100 year old pine did not find it flimsy, borrowed 090 stuggled to pull it through tree bar only just big enough not for the faint hearted have picture around somewhere will post it when i find it, big tree!

I was planning on selling the saw. I'm about 5 ft 10" 185 lbs and dont even really like using a saw much bigger than say ms660 w 36" :p The main reason I asked this question is I want the saw to be legit and safe when I do sell it. I finally got the chain today. 173 links of rapid super full skip chisel  I work for a Stihl dealer here in Memphis where we really don't have much need for a 59" bar. I'm 29 yrs old and still relatively new to big saws so I appreciate you all helping answer my questions.

Yeah it's no saw for a girly man. I ain't making fun of nobody though the 25" and MS390 is heavy compared to my other saws...sounds cool I'd love to see pics of that bad boy
