Well I've done it now. Just stuck my new grinder in a faulty 372 BB exhaust port, wore a heap of aluminium in the face, got aluminium splinters in my feet (not wearing shoes), chattered the hell out of the bit, woke the neighbours, got their dog's barking, wasn't game to walk back in the house for fear of leaving a trail of spear like small metal needles, had glitter like facial and hair features etc etc.
It was fun. I'll do it again tomorrow night.
Those air operated die grinders certainly shift some material

Good stuff Matt.

If it's chattering, it sounds like it's not running fast enough. If your bit clogs or to prevent it, use a little CRC etc on the port.

Use a cheap pair of those magnifying glasses you can get from variety stores.

My tacho wouldn't read it but at full noise it is meant to pull 22,000rpm.
Good tip with the CRC, I have 60 litres of INOX PTFE lube in the shed

My little pencil grinder is supposedly good for 70,000RPM and so does some really fine work.
I've also wrecked a few burrs that weren't rated for that speed :msp_rolleyes:

It's pneumatic Rick. I also have a Black & Decker Dremel knock off as well but not sure what RPM that can do. 70k ain't hanging around

Most guys here would pee their pants thinking I can get 15,000rpm in the cut and you saying it's too slow
As far as the chattering goes Al it was only when I really hogged it at silly angles. It was actually leaving a very nice finish, even in plate steel and bar grooves.

Naa, I'm telling porkies Al, I just went and grabbed it and it's no load speed is 54,000 RPM. (not sure where I got the big number from, must've just got carried away )

Haven't got the right angle one yet, but hopefully soon.

Finally got a chance to run this saw today. I LIKEY ALOT! I richened it up a hair, man what a beast this saw is. Explodes off the throttle like crazy, lots of power, I really do like this saw very much.

Well that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy Will. Glad you like it old son and I'm sure you'll continue to like it. Al has been playing with the BB kit and 460BB piston on mine too so when he gets the time to finish it I'm sure that will be a weapon too Keep us updated.

Also guys do you mind posting a few piccys and some info on what porting tools, bits etc you use or need? I know I'll find it interesting for sure and it will help with future purchases if I decide to join the porting masses Sorry to hijack Will

I'd like to try and do an offset popup piston in my lathe, get the comp up, then I can raise the ex to where I'd like. I think right now its at 175-180psi, not that that's bad or anything.

I'm actually going to have a crack soon on my dad's lathe to knock a few thou of the base of a few kits to bump up the compression - does that make any significant changes to the timing?

Not usually much to worry about. Most times its beneficial though.

On the way out, that's my friend in front of me, cut and split a couple truckloads of firewood, with some left over, and still more of the tree to cut up, this is the same tree as the last 395 vids I did, its huge, I'm at the point where I have to cut from both sides with a 36".
