HI, I'm new and looking for info. I have a 640g skidder with a blown engine and I need to release the brakes to move it for repair. Anyone have any suggestions as to how I do this? Thanks in advance for any help.

assuming it has air brakes?just a thought but, find out what size air line you have and buy a tee with a schreder valve, cut your airline and install tee after the compressor, and in theory you might be able to charge the system from either a compressor or air tank, releasing the brakes...that my .02

If you have air brakes, then where the blow-off valve is located on the air canister, remove the blow-off valve, add a quick-connect coupler, and use an air hose and compressor to pressurize the can, about 65 PSI should release the brakes. Do not exceed 100 PSI on the can, or you could blow it up. Another way to do it is this: assuming that there are slack adjusters on the brake drums, you should be able to take a 7/16" wrench and adjust the brake pads away from the drums until they are no longer touching the drums, thus releasing the brakes.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies, this machine has a wet brake system, I've found a brake relief valve on a schematic that may do the job, now all I have to do is locate it on the "chine". Thanks again, I really like this site.

there is also an accumulator canister on the right side of the machine next to the firewall. i would try un hooking a hose there.

We were looking at that just now, what is in the cannister? one of my guys thinks it nitrogen? Were trying to decide if something there will help. I'm thinking we will have to apply some kind of pressure( hydraulic, grease or maybe air) to get the brakes to release. Thanks for the all the help.

Do not play with the accumulator!!! Call your dealer and ask them you have a spring applied brake that's released with hydraulic pressure.

thanks 380LGR, I wanted to get the thing moved this weekend, guess I'll have to wait until Monday and discuss it with John Deere. Thanks to everyone for the replies.
