A cheap ms170... what could go wrong!

If your fuel line fell apart due to age, the oil pickup line is probably the same way.
Replace the line, clean or replace the pickup screen. While you are in there, check for debris in the oil tank and clean it out if needed.
Your right, just had it all to bits again and replaced the oil line via the bottom with the tank in place. The AV mounts were a bit tricky but a job well done. I nearly took the tank out but I saw it needed the flywheel off so carried on from underneath.

When i reached that point fixing ms170, i took flywheel of with impact driver and some knocking to get it loose.

The adjustable carb has arrived as did a new length of pull cord. I've cleaned up 99 percent of the saw ready for the rebuild. Just waiting on a fuel pipe as the original fell to bits when I tried to wiggle the tank out of its socket.

I fitted some secondhand genuine bumper spikes for ebay for a bit more grip. I let the coilly snake out of the hole when I replaced the cord, I didn't expect it to unwind as I thought it would have a plate like the 038 to keep the spring under. Suppose it gave me chance to clean it and re lube it.

I can see it's built on a budget but for a little saw it feels quite sturdy. I look forward to hearing it pop for the first time.
I've prepared the carb ready but I think I'll wait till the fuelpipe arrives before I put it all back together again.

Does the sprocket look OK?

Forgot to add I also made it a side chain tension adjuster at the same time did the same to the 021, can't believe I didn't do it already!
I would replace the sprocket - especially if putting on a new chain.

From the get go the saw is really quick to blip, the response is surprising. It was beautifully clean earlier after the fuel line install, greasy fingers left their mark after removing the handle, so much oily crap under there after going in again to replace the oil line.

Gt85 helped the way
I'll sharpen the tiny chain tomorrow and give it its first job in the orchard.

Much better looking with the dogs on there, like a proper saw!

BTW. There are several versions of that carb depending on when and where. If you do replace it make sure you get the right one or the holes won't line up.
I ended up with a walbro 215 for the huge sum of £6.71 including P&P!

I had to knock the metal pip out for one port and used araldite to glue up the other. From clicking buy to it running in 2 days, and I left it 24 hours for the araldite to cure.

Thanks for the heads up on the differences. 👍

1739311239187.pngA little piece of toothbrush should work just fine. Just something to support the end of the adjustment screw. #33 in the diagram.
