Go buy the 661 as well, run both, do some vids for us to compare times, then sell the one you don't want to keep.

I understand your point of making a comparison.

But......what would the depreciation be on the MS 661 or MS 660 once it's been fueled and cut with? To avoid losing money, that would require locustman to have a buyer lined up willing to pay what he paid for either saw, or a very understanding dealer, or a store with a very liberal return policy.

Good luck with your new toy, I too prefer to tune my own saws but all saws have their advantages. Personally I don't understand why someone would take pleasure in pissing in someone's Cheerios, just because you don't like a saw does not make you the ultimate authority. To each his own.

I wasn't pissing in anyone's Cheerios, I was simply stating my opinion of the saw and giving some advice. As you can see, others have had the same experience with the 660.

Monday we have a customer drop off his MS 660 for some work, oiler had stopped working. He said he had a tree job to do and really needed it fast so the boss gave him his personal 661 to use. Guy just came in and wanted to know how much we would give him for the 660. When asked he just loved how smooth it ran and how much more power it had in the cut. ( his bar and chain ) The OP has a fine fine saw but the people I have sold them to really like them. With all that said ....Enjoy your new saw!

The fellas that have the 661 know that a larger outlet or dual port added to the 661 also has the same effect in broadening the 661's power .........................
Add a Max Flow and it really wakes up

Best to keep quiet and let them think that you are dumb than to speak and remove all doubt

So are you saying that the 661 M-tronics will play along nicely no matter what the mod?

See, just based on this thread alone you need to specify if the 660 was stock or not... otherwise what's the point... right?

It was a stock saw, had it been ported I would have said so. I have run the stock version of all 3 MS 661 carb version MS 661 M-Tronic and a stock MS 660 The latter 2 I was able to run with the same bar and chain at a Stihl dealer days event. 661 M-Tronic was far and away a smoother saw. Faster in the cut and more " refined " in its handling. BUT that is not to say the 660 is a slouch. It is a workhorse and you did well! But to base your decision on it being M-Tronic is a fallacy IMO. Now go cut some wood and enjoy your saw!

Maybe he still is, he had the local dealer hold a 661 for him.

I think Ace Hardware selling Stihl will slowly kill the quality like has done with most other saw brand, but that's for another campfire.

OP, what are 13/16" files for?
Why would it? I'm a True Value store and we're an excellent Stihl dealer. I've been to other Stihl dealers in this state that aren't a hardware store that can't hold a candle to our knowledge and quality of service. Are we perfect? No way, which is why I make it a habit at stopping into a couple dealers that I think are doing it right and stealing ideas from them.

When I suggested an ms461, I was in no way trying to piss in somebodys Cheerios, the ms660 is a fine saw. I'm just too lazy to carry around the extra weight if I don't need to.

Right tool for the right job my friend. Much like using a sledge hammer to drive finishing nails.

l own a 2012 660 and after some porting and tuning l have a reliable respectable 90cc saw. But lets not kid ourselves the 066/660 platform design is at least three decades old. Many little changes have been made over the years some good some not so good but the 660 was the saw in stihls line up that needed upgrading the most. New spring av alone is a game changer for that saw, a 660 will rattle your bones idleing in ones hand. But many other advances have been made making the 661 the latest and greatest in its class. l will own one soon and for good reason.

Damn! I sure hope you don't talk too fast, you're liable to chew a hole through your underwear.

WTF does who sells a certain product have to do with the quality of said product?

Yeah, but we're on AS, right? Money doesn't matter if it's for the cause of finding the best saw in the class.... : )

The guy at the ace by me told me the ms261 was more expensive than the ms251 because it was bigger. Not picking on ace, but it always amazes me how little some people know about the items they are trying to sell.

660 was a great choice ,congrats on the new saw
Listen to this guy (he knows what he is talking about) and ignore the haters. You done good!!! Enjoy your purchase. Legendary saw in stock form and infinitely willing to accept any modification you want (not need) to apply to it. FWIW, I find my traditional manual carb saw more reliable than my m-tronics.
