A kink in the drive

It kinks after I pull the chain one revolution of the new rim. I double checked it's mate to the chain but I'm leaning on the rim drive and chain aren't made for each other. I'm still at a loss here. Thanks.

What saw is this ? I'm not getting how a new rim could not fit a chain -- unless it is one of those funky 076 rims that won't align unless they have special slots.

Any information or pics would help, and provide entertainment on a slow forum day. :)

Ole Mac 999. I'll post some pics here in a bit. Is it possible the # of pins in the rim be not compatible to the Carlton .404 .063?

That sounds weird. Unless the rim is defective -- never heard of that happening -- I'm not inclined to blame the rim.

Have you, with the bar off the saw, tried sliding the chain around the bar, making sure it slides smoothly ? Sorry to 2nd guess you, just throwing ideas out. If it were binding somewhere on the bar, the slack might pile up at the drive sprocket and make it look like a bad fit at that point.

I'm not seeing a fit problem at the rim in this fuzzy pic.

How's the air filter system on the 999 ? I've had lots of problems with fines leaking past or through the filter on my efcos. Since the 999 is supposed to be the same powerhead that's used on Efco concrete saws, you'd think it would have a reliable filter ?

I have determined that the rim doesn't work with the chain. Letting the rim roll around the chain off the saw it's like they're unmatched after 1 rev. Mistake was tossing the other and having nothing to compare to. Bad rim I suppose but what would an 8 pin do? My camera is acting up again. The 999 has a two component filter system and I don't think something as small as 6 microns could get through.

Well, I'll have to take your word for the rim not fitting the chain. Still sounds weird, though. A good excuse to convert to 325 ? Just kidding.

One of these days when your camera is working better, I'd like to see that fancy two-piece air filter.

Sorry about the fuzzz. My camera's auto feature isn't working good. Switch to manual next time. I'll go back up to the shop and dig that old rim out of the scrap metal bin and then compare them. Anyone here have a 999? I'd like to know if Efco puts this filter system on their wood saws. What's under the hood on this one?

Went to a shop today and matched up rims. There was a difference. Both stamped .404 7 but one was slightly larger in OD by a few 1000th's. Back to good. Just be mindfull when purchasing.

yes, they did put it,on the later saws, for the same problem mentioned--and the whole top is diff than the older "stock" type setup--

Mine is 101cc's but I understand there was a 106+ cc unit made. It's no 137 like an 090 but what I have has had no problem ripping through 55" wide 4 years dried White Ash. I do not know the bore/stroke ratio. By the way my Pit Bull/Lab killed and dragged into the house a 20# woodchuck yesterday. I was on the phone with a client and had to make the call short.
