i know this is off-topic of chainsaws, but feel a good number of you have probably used them, and i value your opinions.......so here it goes...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i intend to rent a terramite in a few days for 24 hours which allows me 8 hours of running time. i need it to remove some rocks in my back yard, all the trees are down and the stumps ground out, so the final touch is to get rid of the rocks and i will be able to mow without killing my mower and blades.

my question is.......i have never used a terramite or anything like it before, is it simple to learn? or will i be wasting my 8 hours of running time trying to figure out how to use it?

Easy to use. Hope your land is mostly flat, as they only have a hydrostatic fwd and rev, no brakes.

Isn`t a Terramite one of those mine backhoes that the rental yards have? A better machine for this stage of the game, since you don`t need the hoe, would be a skidsteer with a bucket mounted Harley rake.

This machine will pick up the stones while it churns and smooths the remaining soil leaving a nearly perfectly prepared seedbed. They do leave an embedded windrow of rocks on occassion, but they are easily picked out and thrown in the bucket manually if necessary. You can cover 5-6 acres in 8 hrs with this setup if you know what you are doing.

begleytree...yes, my land is flat, i went and checked it out this morning and it seems less complicated than i thought. thanks for the input!

jokers .........the terramite has a backhoe and a loader in the front. i do need the backhoe, the rocks i have to dig out range in size from 2 to 4 times the size of a cinder block (about 50 of them) and they are wedged inbetween deeper rocks, i just want to dig out the rocks sticking out above the ground, than bring in a truck of top soil, i have a york rake for my lawn tractor to smooth it all out and get up the small stones. thanks for your input!
it will be here thursday morning, i will see how i make out.
