Just one of my buzzards sunning himself while eyeing GOLOGIT while he was bucking :chainsaw: a pine tree in my back yard! I think one was licking his lips!! Looking pretty tender there Gologit! :poke:

I should think he'd be a bit too tough and stringy. But those birds will eat anything!:)

Thank you. Thank you very little. :)

On a side note...at the end of the day there were approximately thirty to forty buzzards roosting in the pine trees at Oregon Made's house. I've never seen that many in one place before. Does anybody know why so many would roost in one spot?

I'm supposed to be on the saw again there tomorrow. Not sure I want to, now. What do the birds know that I don't? :monkey:

Those were all brothers, sisters, cousins, and grandmas and grandpas. Badass birds really, sure can soar.

Must have been a really nice perch. And they got to watch you all. A nice afternoon. Vultures have it made.

I've been to visit a lady on a south Georgia island where she has been collecting for years for a ntural history collection so she has decaying things all over the place. Thats in addition to monitoring sea turtle nesting. There'll regularly be 30-40 buzzards around. Really neat place

They could be migrating. Ours in WI are getting ready to pack it up for south america to eat monkeys all winter.

The buzzards are still here. In fact there's even more of them. I'm not superstitious (well, not much) and I don't believe in omens and portents but....I'm packing out.

When the buzzards migrate on to wherever it is they go I'll be back...that tree ain't going anywhere in the meantime. :)

The way we've been getting the rain, I would not be surprised to see pelicans and seagulls sitting in the trees here. Maybe time to get the kayaks ready to paddle to work in the morning.:)

"The Birds"

Sure would have liked to have gotten the picture of when something startled them and there about 40 taking off at once out of those trees. It was impressive! Thought about getting my Mossberg 500 out to see if we could recreate it!

I have heard that when startled, they can jettison their "load" for a quicker take off and that it is a most unpleasant smell. I think I'd want to keep them calm...nice birdy, nice nice birdy. :)

Yes when scared they regurgeitate to lighten the load to escape. An animal rescue palce in syracuse had two they used for educational purposes. Their names were ralph and barf. They also deficate on their legs to keep microbes from growing there. They only eat dead things and they don't have talons like raptors just feet. Pretty interesting birds. I once worked at an environmental center before going back to tree work..... Mike

Oh Damn!

These trees sit on less than a .5 of an acre. It's really hard to wash down a bunch of 100 ft pines. Oh my! First my family of fat squirrels tried hard hats.. that didnt work! Last time I saw them they were packing their little squirrel bags and were headed north to Grass Valley! I will miss my furry little friends! (replaced by smelly deficating herd of buzzards)

You could take a couple of shots towards them. Send them a little message! They are pretty gutsy birds, but they know their limits. If you start runnin a saw and droppin trees they'll move, just watch for puke bombs!
