Sorry if I offended anyone, however I didn't like the offense either. His macs probably are faster. Its just a shame they dont make them anymore. When they were good. I am a mac owner I have a japanese made mac 120 top handle. There is no word for how much I hate that thing. I dont know why I hold on to it. I have considered getting an old real MAC, but think it might end up in a money pit. We all have our favorites right!

Don't feel like the lone ranger,I got one of those little #$%@,things myself. Not my favorite .

Hey, I've got a 120 too, its not a japanese made unit, parts made in USA, assembled in mexico, said so right on the label on the case. not trying to argue, with you, but I just know the facts. I got mine from my dad when he died, and he got it from his dad, who bought it new from the dealer in the 80's.

It is a terrible little saw it has looow hours and is a bundle of trouble. However, I love that saw, it was my dads he used it very little. When I got old enough I started using it. Oiler broke so I rubbed oil on the bar and chain after every so many cuts. The aggrivation that saw gave me made me buy MY first saw a stihl 290 used $50. Then it all started. If I had a good saw to use I would just be cuttin like everone else that isnt a part of this site and didnt know the true love for high quality machinery, saws that is.

I did not realize it was somewhat made in the us. I never paid any attention to it after I got my stihls. I still hate it though maybe I got a lemon.

Justin, McCulloch, Homelite, even Poulan made very good saws in their day. These saws were killed by their marketing departments as much as or more than their engineers. Marketing drove all of them into K-mart and other stores and away from serviceing dealers. Marketing kept demanding lower cost, this killed quality and stifled engineering. I have saws that are older than you are, heck I have saws that older than I am! I am still learning that just because something is old and not made anymore does not mean it has no value as a working tool.

Glen, I didn't know you were a cigar smoker, send me your address and I'll send you a gift from a friend who travels to Havana.

I love mine, the last time I used it, I had the bar buried in wood and the revs never dropped below 9500 while just slashing through the wood. this was with a 12" bar in 16" wood, dont know the species but it was kinda soft. the saws down for a carb rebuild now, but will be in action again once I get off my backside and get the kit, then pull the engine out of the case and redo the carb. I love that saw for my trimming work, and some light cutting, it fills the need for a small saw with power under the hood.

I realize what happened to the companys sedanman. It is sad, if they had all stayed tight Imagine the kind of arguments we would have. Instead of StihlvsHusky with a little bit of dolmar mixed in. I think runnig old saws is really cool my 031 is way older than me and I love it. I do still have a decent parts supply. That is my only downside on old saws, that are currently parts obselete.

They got bit by the big box bug..

Gee that stired up a hornets nest fellas, i'm just sitting here watching and smoking a durrie, Oz slang for cigarette.

I have to find something that stirs them thin skinned Husky boys into action.

I dont race huskies cause their just dog's.

Bob.

my turn

i have had the chance to borrow a stihl 036 Pro it is a good saw but to me it has no personality.

one of my favorite quotes is " if its easy, its not worth doing. "

i don't live off my saws but i do like having a dependable piece of history in my collection be it ever so small but it is still growing.

my point being i like My old Mac. not trying to stir the pot but if one can tune them correctly and can understand the shortcoming's of any model you can keep it running for a very long time.

You be careful now, Bob. :Eye:
Picking on Stihl's owners I understand, But all Brands. Bob are you trying too take the world?? :)

old saw we think alike.. if the saw does the job i dont care if its called matel.[toy] i owe no allegance to any company.. accept to report here my knowledge of an particular saw..this given to possibly help others know more about a given choice ,the may be cosidering..
i picked up an friends craftsman [poulan] .. it sounded pitifull.. they gottum so restricted now, with no adjustments..like i said dang pitiful..i dont know how to help it as if i open the muffler ,i wont be able to adjust the saw.. so my hands are tied as to helping him. weak saw..i just hope mine hold up as i pllain could go dn in quality that much.. a bow saw would nearly beat it..it was quiet tho.. too quiet .. slow strangleation.

Tony if it is a unajustable carb, what about reboring the jet a little or putting in a larger jet.
