A few questions first....

1. Is it really worth the 2400.00 price tag?
2. If most of the work I do is from a bucket, is it really worth buying?
3. (hypothetical) 8 hour oak tree roping and limbing, how much time roughly would it save? 2-4 hours because of the bigger pieces I would be able to safely rig?
4. Does Sherrill have these in stock? or would it be a special order?
5. If I buy one do I have to post pics imediately?

KNow guys that swear ny the GRCS... Mark Chisholm, a two time ITTC winner called it a 24 hour replacement tool... Meaning I want this tool on my tomorrow no matter what... Other well respected arborist I've met at local competitions say he uses it all the time with the bucket... So I won't argue with that way of thinking...

I have one and keep it on the truck all the time, though that is whereit stays mostly. Guess there is a difference in styles... We can use gravity on most every tree... Big wood is tough to butt hitch on a porty, so on the rare occasion we can't get a crane to a big tree, we'll use it then, and there are sometimes when its nice to be able to lift the limb for safety of man and property..

When I first got it I would occasionally use it for pulling trees over, though that is a lot of gear to play with cause you need to set a redirect pulley above it, so we'll use some other MA system now, and I did get hoisted into the tree with it on one occasion as well... actually 5 trees on the same job.. deadwooding big oaks, started at 4 PM.It saved a lot of time and energy then..

Don't count on using it all the time, but if you rig big trees a lot you will run into jobs that you can do with it that others are going for the crane on... So how many crane days does it need to save to pay for itself? 2

Its worth the money cause it will give you a competitive advantage and pay for itself over and over again in time...

The only question is should you buy something else more productive first.. I'd save for a skid loader before I bought a GRCS if I had to do it over again..

info sounds good guys gonna see what sherrill says in a few minutes and a skid steer is on my wishlist also(previously owned a t-18o)

I didnt even see a GRCS in that link. Not to mention that I am sure that Greg Good developed the Good Rigging Control System.

agree with emr... didn't see a post for a GRCS not to mention everything I know about the GRCS mentions Greg Good designed it....

I like the '24hr tool' description above. This tool has done things for us that could not be done any other way. Get the 'visor' if you want protection from falling debris... we made our own 'truck mount' to fit it into the F350 hitch.

if i stay in this business much longer...............

i will have one this year.

Greg lives near the Harken headquarters in Pewaukee, WI so he saw that their compact yachting winch could be adapted for tree work. He spent some 5 years tweaking the design so that it would be easy to set up and run the rope clean. He has a background in mech. design and has been doing treework for decades as Good Tree Care.

Greg does not sell the product directly, due to how the tends to PO his vendor network when deals are cut on the side.

100% agreed.

We have worked the living hell out of ours, and the only issue has been replacing the truck strap due to spur accidentily poking it, $40 item.

It has been the best $2400 we have invested next to the chipper & truck.

100% Agreed as well..

You got a chipper and truck for $2400.. :) I want to shop where you do.

I have wanted one for years but never had a job that just made me buy it. It is a real neat tool but I have a big standard strap on bollard that can be tensioned other ways, I have a plug in welded to my picker that can be tightened by pulling up the truck, portys, and I have a truck crane and we have great sub crane ops around here.

In the spring when I have the $2400 you mentioned I am going to buy that gas powered rope climber (sponsor Darren?). Then maybe next I get it as I have just about everything else.

I don't see a real legitimate comparison to the GRCS and a crane. Sure you can lift a piece but it is not going anywhere laterally (like away from the roof or into the flat bed, etc.).

I use mine very often. The longer you own one, the more uses you will find for it. I strongly recommend it. Well worth the money.

If you can get a crane on every job, then no. It sure helps for those wher they do not fit, or ar not worth rolling out.
