Tom you ought to see if you can sell them some pruning sealer to go along with their new saws.

Hey good point Tree. We sell it but I rarely think about it. I'm usually outside showing the buyers how to fire it up and all the info they need about the prunner. I don't think much on the sealer. I'll keep that in mind next time. Really I will , thats a good point. Cheers back at ya on that..

Pruning sealer out here is a recipe for disaster...

That figure 7 is misleading... I'm sure it's from an authoritative source, but I sure wouldn't prune like that!

Traps moisture between the sealer and cut, lets fungus/nasties set up home, and retards the natural healing processes.

Sure it has it's place, but not on most Western trees... but what do I know
??? I'm no arborist..

My KM130 with the "supercharged pole pruner" will kick all of your butts! Hmmm... expanded oiler, 18 inch bar, with optional hedge trimmer guards attached for "trimming"... :yoyo:

Hmmm interesting. I'll have to take time and read the labels on them and see what all they suppose to do. My main thing is the prunner sale. The sealer would be a add on sale and you know me, I like to sell..

Heck, add in some brushkiller, give it away and if it kills the tree, you get to sell a saw!:jester:

Lake has it right. For the most part pruning sealers do no good........and often do harm.

Bad pruning cuts remove decay resistant tissue, lets fungus/nasties set up home, retards the natural healing processes, can make tree hazardous and can cause visual blight.

I bet the markup is high on sealers!

Don't know Tree, all I know is we sell several different brands of sealer. Sounds like more trouble than its worth............

Love all of the info here. I remember 30 years ago my dad spraying a black something on the trees after making a cut. After a little searching on this site I determined that it was not needed and potentially harmful. Without this site I might have very well gone to the nursery looking for sealer, that they most likely would have been happy to sell me.

Thanks to all.

Jim

Hey Lake you ought to suggest (if it's not in the works already) a head for the gas pole saw that rotates 90 degrees. Then homeowners could top their little trees too.

Na, you're not thinking big enough... That's just an HT 101 with the 0-135 hedge trimmer rotated to 90!

TWO KM130's, each driving a gearbox that drive one chain around a 30 inch double ended bar. Just walk two-by-two with it held at "pruning height..."

Hey, could even double up on the gear boxes (4 now) so there are two hedge trimmers hanging down the sides - a perfect hedge in one pass!:ices_rofl:

Stihl lawyers are reaching for the restraining-order paper work:taped:

What this image is showing is a limb that has died but a short piece has lived at the trunk and it has started to close over the dead wood.

In this case it is better for the tree to cut off the dead piece and leave the live stub because target pruning back to the branch collor would cause a much larger would. We run into this quite a bit in trees and it's a bugger explaining to the tree owner.

I think the image has the wrong text to go with it.

I was having a googlegasm sorry about that..:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:
