I'm new to saw work but managed to get a Micro xxv up and going a few weeks ago. I recently purchased another micro saw, this time a 2000, as a parts saw. The outside is clean and I was thinking of instead making it a runner...but just pulled the cylinder and it's pretty gouged. I could get a piston kit but in your experience is it worth it given the gouges in the cylinder? They're on the exhaust side of the bore...other side is still smooth. Maybe some amount of gouging is acceptable and it can be honed out?
Thanks
Rob

Yes looks fairly bad, but heck, get some 240 grit and go to town removing the transfer and just see. (I tend now to use green scotchbrite - takes longer but silicone carbide papers on silicone carbide plating isn’t really the best idea I don’t think).

If there are gouges you can catch with your nail it’s probably better just replacing the cylinder (or leaving it as a parts saw). If not, stick a new piston and rings in and enjoy it.

You’ll be surprised just how far gone a 2 stroke cylinder and piston can be and still work well.

I have a piston and cylinder from a micro that is in much better shape than what you have. I have no use for it. Let me know if you are interested.
