Advice on fitting logsplitter valves please?.

Hi,
I've used a tractor mounted splitter for a long time but am now building a towable tip-up model with the table at waist height behind the axle and the beam folding down to the front above the drawbar.
The ram is 500mm stroke but has to sit fairly high up on the beam and is quite a weight to raise up.
I'm looking at fitting a light ram angled between the drawbar and the beam to raise and lower the beam.
Can I just tee off from the hydraulic pipes to the splitter valve to a valve for such a ram?.

You could install a Tee into the lines. On the splitter I am building I am using an open center valve to control the spitting ram. I piped the outlet of this first valve into the inlet of a second valve to control the log lift. By using a very short pipe nipple the valves are very close together and easy to mount. I dont know what type of valves are available where you live but I assume they are similiar to what we have here.
 
Pipe nipples are only rated to something like 250 psi. They can become grenades at 3000 psi. find the correct fittings.
 
My piping handbook rates a 3/4" steel pipe fitting (sch 40) at about 8600 psi bursting pressure and 1100 working pressure. Maybe my use of the term nipple is not the correct term. Use a very short piece of pipe threaded on both ends.
 
xxs is rated to 2900 working psi 1100 is still to low as most splitters generate around 2750-3000 working psi. I just don't want anyone hurt.
 
You may want to look into a selector valve. A simple push pull to direct oil flow to different rams.:

Then you can use the same control valve that you use to run the splitting ram.

Sounds like you have a long nipple? Here's an article that describes the different types of hydraulic nipple fittings. Let me know if I was right.
