Do I Need a Damper?

Okay, seems like from what I reading on here that that stove won't work very well for coal. I might do wood, I suppose it wouldn't take to much more wood cutting to get enough for my shop.
 
Well....guys the folks over on coalpail.com agree that that is not a coal stove and I would be stupid to burn coal in it.
So, I'll probably just do wood in that stove, or maybe find a wood pellet stove.

do you need a damper?

My experience, and lessons from my dad. on a calm day, no damper is needed.
When the wind gets going it will increase the draft, his words "sucks the heat right up the flue"
And that follows with what I have experienced here. a windy night, and I have the damper closed, the stove shut down almost all the way, and the thing is suckin' like a hoover...
