I have 2- 260 pros that are scorched! Does anyone have any experience with the after market piston and cylinders from Baileys? Or should I bight the bullet and by the parts from Stihl?
Thanks!:greenchainsaw:

I just installed a big bore piston/cylinder from Baileys in a 460 and it is working just fine. Started right up!

Thanks, I think the price difference makes it worth a try.

BTW - I bought my cylinder/piston because it was easy to buy online (50 miles to my Stihl dealer). I never checked the Stihl price. How much price difference is there?

I think the price difference through my local shop is about 80 bucks. I was reassured by the salesman at baileys that they have never received complaints about these products. He did say however that when they first started carrying these things that they were recalled because they were defective but changes have been made and they are fine now.

FYI - My 460 overheated due to chips from the cut clogging the air intake.

My problem was with using a long 36" bar, cutting small stuff on the ground, the chips flying up and hitting my leg, then the wind from behind me blowing the chips back up into the air intake.

One or two cuts and the air intake would be completely blocked!

I made a rubber flap which hangs down to prevent this from happening again. Probably different problem with your saws, but if it is a chips blocking the air intake problem, maybe someone could design something to prevent this from happening?

Here is the thread with pictures of my rubber flap...

I think my issue was bad gas/oil mix. These saws are being run by young inexperienced folks in a national service program. We also low stump allot of ash juniper so these saws are in the dirt allot. I have a feeling grit is getting sucked into the air intake. We have started cleaning our filters with soap and water instead of high pressure air and this has really improved the life of the saws and the filters.

Thanks again for the info!

I recently ordered the 460 big bore kit from baileys. paid around $100. The local Stihl Dealer here was telling me around $350 for the stock piston and jug.

I ordered one two months ago they told me it was going out in one week they have since sent me several letters saying they are still waiting on them. I am in NJ ever since they moved to California my service has gone down the tubes.

I have ordered plenty from Baileys and love there service. They are more than likely having problems with the manufacturer. Just a guess. I ordered two sets yesterday. I will let yall know the outcome later. The salesman assured me the parts were in stock. I have replaced these things before with stihl stock. Is there anything to watch out for IE compression, tach issues when replacing pistons and cylinders? I dont have the tools to do these kinds of tests but the boss man would let me get them if they are important for the job.

I have also ordered plenty from Bailys and in the past there service ie delivery time was great. I would sometimes get orders the next day. but since they have moved there whole operation to California it will opten take 10 days for delivery when they assure me it is in stock and going out right away. I have called them back numerous times and they just say oh well thats how long it takes. Don't get me wrong I still like Bailys. They have great products at good prices. I ordered 10 20" loops of chain last friday was told it was in stock and going right out, I dont expect to see it till next week sometime.
