Have any of you had any luck with aftermarket top-end kits? I've seen a few on e-bay but can't find a source for them. It would be nice to know that a saw could be saved from the junk-pile without spending the price of a new saw to get factory replacement parts. If the engine blew in a relatively new pick-up you could replace it for about $4,000.00 with a factory replacement engine (still less than a new truck), puke a saw and the parts bill can quickly reach the price of a new saw! We all know of saw shops that have a room full of "un-repairable" saws.

There is an aftermarket company I used to buy from in North
Carolina bt the name of Sunbelt. You could buy Mahle
cyl. and pistons for a number of saws. After a whole lot of
creative searching, I finally came up with their phone number
a month or so ago to set up an account with them again. I was
begining to think they must have gone out of business, and
after calling them I am amazed they are still in business. That
company truly needs to fire most of their staff. 9 years ago
they were a good source for saw parts, but now they don't
really seem too interested in selling anything. The sales manager
didn't call me back because I refused to order $500 worth of
parts on my first order[without even seeing the catalog].
I refuse to beg to buy someone's product. It is a shame, they
were a good parts supplier. If you are interested, I can probably
dig up their number again.

There is a company named Techomec that sells aftermarket topend kits through Stens and other companies that I've had some good sucess with especially for the Sthil TS350 and the 028.
I think they sell kits for Husky and Homelite as well.

Anybody got an idea where I could get a cylinder and piston for a Solo 654 for a fair price? Russ

Hey Methoss084, How do I get in touch with stens? (don't all kill me I'm relatively new at this). Techomec (I'm sure I murdered the spelling) is the brand I saw on e-bay.

Not all places have junk piles, at least around here. The local Husky dealer/Yamaha genny shop told me that they toss any used equipment they get, working or not. I can believe it from the looks of the place.

Need to camp out in their dumpster sometime soon...

You can reach Stens via email at www.stens.com, or call 1-800-457-7444. I'm pretty sure they will only sell you parts if your a dealer or have a tax I.D. #.
