Good Evening Everyone:
I tried to stay local with a new dealer in the area for my Stihl parts and avoid using the internet/ Ebay for a ring set and head gasket. I asked for "a head gasket and ring set" What I got was an aftermarket gasket for $2.59, sounded reasonable to me, and here is the interesting part, a lone ring for $21.59. Not 2 rings, but just one genuine Stihl ring. (1121-034-3010) I mean, it's for an 026, and he knew that, wouldn't that imply that I wanted both rings? :angry2: Before I think this dealer is crazy, have any of the 026's come with a single ring? Bailey's ring set for $12.00 sure is looking nice right now.
Anyhow, that's my question, should I even bother asking the dealer what he was thinking, or just cut the $25 loss, and walk away? There are a bunch more Stihl dealers around here, as Hornett22 can attest to...
Have a great weekend everyone,
Jason

Welp hate to tell ya but those rings are sold by the each and he's in the ball park on the price, though alittle high. Around here they go for 19.00 each. As for the after market gasket now, I dont know how he got that or where he's buying those from.

I dont know what rings the 026 uses. But 44mm 1.5mm rings can be bought for $2.19 each. aftermarket rings. 45mm 1.5mm is the same price.

I have used a few of the ring sets from Bailey's and they seem to work fine. They are not of the same quality as Stihl's OEM but good enough for the average user. None of the sets had seating grooves and I felt that a couple needed a little work with some fine sandpaper. The same can be said for the pistons. That being said, I will buy many more sets as they serve my function very well. I would also recommend them for most peoples rebuild on most saws. The price is good and the service from Bailey's has always been great, I wish they were local. Just check them over before installing, which you should do with OEM parts as well.

Thanks everyone, I'll stick with him

Thanks everyone, I'll just order up another ring then, I thought it was strange that he only ordered me one though... Nonetheless, I'm sure this rebuild will last me a long time just fine. The saw is 10 years old and I'm sure will last plenty long after this. $50 isn't much in the grand scheme of heating my house without any oil use this year. Have a good weekend, and thanks again for the replys.

Some guys just replace the top ring... and use the old lower ring.

Put your rings in the bore near the bottom of the cylinder and measure the end gap - that will tell you how much they have worn. The top ring often wears much faster than the lower.

I replace both...
