This year I got alot of stump grinding requests, But not enough to justify buying a machine as I just sold one, I can usually line up stump jobs on a given day within the week, I rent a vermeer 252 to do this.

The rental angle to me has been more practical as I dont have to worry about maintenace, storage, non-use & the ever so popular employee(s) who dont know what happened "it just did this & then nothing".

some of the stump jobs are small enough I hate to have to return to do them, let alone tailer in a machine, drive it to the stump & in 5 minutes Im done. takes longer to get to the stump than to do it, so what I was wondering is:

Has anyone used one of the Alpine magnum stump machines?, do you like it? is it worth what they are asking? is it as mobile as they say? etc..etc..

I was thinking that with the smaller stumps I could have this machine in the back of one of the pickups/dump(s) to take care of em while on site, leaving the bigger stumps to be done with the rental & wasting less time, I dont know how good this thing grinds & if it would be worth it at all, most of the stumps im grinding are 18-24", occasionally Ill get some monstrous thing to grind. So lets here it!!

thanks

I purchased an Alpine Magnum w/ the Husqvarna powerhead back in April and have been very pleased with it. I work in Upstate South Carolina. I also have a Carlton 7500. The alpine is extremely effective on stumps under 12". As far as mobility is concerned, if you can walk to it, you can grind it. The alpine is nice because it fits in the bed of my truck, so I can take both machines out at the same time. I have had days where due to mobility issues, I could only use the apline. Before that I was turning down a lot of work because I either couldn't get my big grinder to it, or I could get to some of it, but not everything. Feel free to give me a call if you have any more questions about the alpine. 864-979-5189

I bought an Alpine. It grinds real well if the teeth are fresh. I have been disappointed in the teeth. They seem to last only one job. I know some guys say they resharpen them but most of mine seem to be breaking off. I have to price each job with the expectation of using a set of teeth. I only use it where I can't get the bigger stumpers into.

Hi Curbside, I only joined to tell you this. Somewhere on here a guy from Denmark, I think, said he had to grind his teeth blunt or they would break off because of the ground being [ I forget ] , wasn't rocks or shale, but we don't have it here. Maybe your area is like that. I'll try and find it, was about a year ago.

Sorry, I can't find it. It's on here some where, thats how I found this place looking for stump teeth. I spent about 4 hours looking, maybe it was longer than I thought, maybe someone will remember, he could have been from Norway. I just checked your weather, no wonder you guys spend so much time on here, I'm sweating sitting here, 10pm about 30 degrees C and raining.

6 months from now it will be 30 degrees c, but right now it's -21 c with a windchill making it feel -33c. At this time of year our company does mostly commerical snow cleaing.

lxt everytime you get a few stumps inline why dont you just give me a call we can work something out i got a 252 and a 352 vermeer that dont see much use they both have under 200 hours on them.

ya i know what your saying ive had to take down fences and over come alot of obstacles to get to some of the stumps ive done.

I have a stumpmaster, it was what the magnum was copied from. Works well, its hard work at times to use on slopes but I have made a mount to fit it to the drawbar on the chipper so I can get the whole job done in one trip with one truck. Well worth it. And for tough access jobs (which are most of mine) they are fantastic.
