looking at adding a chipper to our equipment. it won't be used except for maintenance on several properties of mine and my families. looking at an altec dc 12 powered by a ford 300 I6. anyone have any opinions? the asking price is 4500 I don't know the hours

When I worked at Asplundh they had a bunch of them. Most everybody hated them, getting cut and whipped by brush sucked. But from what it sounds like you will be doing it would work perfect. On a good note they are great on gas and rarely break down. I dont think I'd pay that much though. If you could get him down to $2500-3000 range it would be a better deal. Also I never used one with a 6cyl engine, they always had 4's. The ford 300 is a very good engine though.

I had a mitts and Merrill back in the day with the straight six that thing had like 5k hours at least and still chipped nice nothing big but it was a hell of a lot better then brush loading

yes it is, simple, reliable, runs for ever. just going to be chipping what we can't burn, or stuff we don't burn. we'll see what happens. waiting on him to call me back.
