I have an Altec LR IV. I got a service manual for it and it says to remove the cover on the upper boom side of the Knuckle and grease it. There is a Zerk on accessible on the outside that is not mentioned in the manual but when you remove the cover there is no tube connected to the thing on the inside so it's basically just globbing up the grease. I assume this is an "improvement" that's not noted in the manual. I have felt around to find where it might connect with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks

That really sounds like a dealer or a manufacturer question.

Altec website allows you to download unit information and manuals. You might try this:

I see you're from KC. You might try Drake-Scruggs Equipment Inc. in Grandview. They service and sell a lot of aerial equipment, but they don't list Altec as a product line: 4101 W Main 765-5525 office

If you do not get any better help elsewhere than I have offered here, bring it by my shop. I will be happy to look at it, and I would like to know somebody locally that has a decent bucket truck, perhaps to hire or swap services with occasionally. PM me, I will give you my address.

My specialty seems to be fixing all the tired old equipment that I buy because I do not make enough money to purchase new equipment!

Fix it myself

I'll try to see if i can download a more up to date manual. I am trying to save the money right now so Drake Scruggs will have to wait. Not a lot of work right now so I am not in need of a bucket. I may take you up on the offer if no one here seems to know.

There is no doubt about "not much work right now".

Is your bucket over-center? Perhaps the problem could be resolved if you extended the boom full travel and looked inside the access panel. That should get you onto the "other side" of the knuckle.

I suspect a separated flexible line, not visible from the standard parked position.

flexible line

Sounds right to me. I'll give it a try. Yes It's over center. It's a 1997 Asplundh truck. If anyone else around has the same
Altec LR IV boom It would be a simple matter of taking out 4 1/4 inch bolts and seeing where the flexible line goes.
