I've got this big tree to cut down soon. It measures 59" below the first limb. It should be real easy to fell and control. I am worried a bit about using my 441 with a 28" bar though. Is it enough saw? I know it will get it done.....but....

I plan on boring through the face cut in order to reach from the sides during the back cut. Seem like a good idea? Or should I get the MS660 with the 36" bar I want?:)

I'll try to get some pics up after work.

The 441 will handle a 28" bar no sweat...

If you are lookin' for an excuse to go buy an 066... just go buy the friggin' thing.

To buy a saw for one tree??? It's your money...

Your wife will still be mad even if we all say buy the 660! But, you could wait for about 100 "yes" posts, then show them to her! It should sound something like " Honey, these guys know, their experts,....la la la..

What kind of tree?

Not positive. It has been dead for some time, but is solid as far as I can tell. My guess is that it is a black gum. I've had others tell me it is white ash, but the bark is an extremely exagerated version of ash.

Guys, I have no worries that the 441 will handle the 28. I just don't want to spend that much time around the trunk. I will have LOTS of wedges and a tractor.

I also plan on using a 660 for many other trees besides this one.

How about mounting a 36" bar w/ full skip chain on your 441? Granted it might not be ideal but would definately throw the chips...

Oh, If money just wasn't an issue...

Would you have any use for it after the job is done?

Yes !!

You are hanging around the wrong place if you are looking for someone to talk you OUT of the new saw !!! I say buy it..... then you will always have it available for future use. Afterall..... you can never have too many tools (chainsaws) !

Sounds perfectly doable, but get the 660 if you want it, and have more use for it......

If the longer bar and chain would work on a 660, I would give them a try on the 441 first. If you don't like it, get the bigger saw.

That being said, I absolutey have no trees my 441 won't handle, but am still looking at a used 660. A timber guy I know has 3 and no longer uses them. He has changed brands. I'm still waiting on a price to see if it's within my budget capabilities.

What brand did he change to?

What brand did he change to?

Husky 385's with 24" bars. Uses one chain/month and 1 bar every 7 months or so. He also runs a harvester so not all the work is by hand.

PA plumber, If you don't want the other two 660's, i'll snatch one up.

Alright. I'll probably be talking to him again this week. I'll see what he says and get back to you. Probably be next week some time.

I guess I will probably try the 441 and see how it does. I've got some big oak logs to help a friend with this weekend.

I do have a few BIG sugar maples around the farm that I've been eyeing....:greenchainsaw: Would love to sink a 660 into them.

My wife is all for the bigger saw, I just have to convince myself it's worth it.

Here's pics of the tree and one to show off my 051 wielding better half.
