Well, I had my choices narrowed to two contenders, the 7900 and the 372. I was scanning Craigs list this morning as I do religiously and what jumped out and grabbed me but a *Mint* condition Husky 371XP w/a 24'' bar. The fellow was very adamant about the price which was $450 so I knew it wouldn't stick around if I tried the skilled art of negotiation which I so love to do so. He said the saw has maybe 6 hrs tops on it. Anywho, I took to the road after work and gave it a look see and liked what I "saw". Well, one down, a gross to go. :greenchainsaw: Can I change the chain tensioner to the 372 version as opposed to this front adjusting model? The dog seems to have its leg thrown all out in the way from what I can tell.

Stick with your front adjust tensioner. The side adjust units on Husky saws are total JUNK in my opinion.

I'm going to make some rooster tails w/it today if it doesn't rain me out. I guess I'll order off a few chains and a smaller bar today as well. I have some rental property in Garner w/some Gargantuan, (flippin huge) Willow Oak trees, (which I despise) that I wouldn't trust myself falling that close to the dwellings. I can't wait to have the man, any qualified company that is put a few on the ground so that the fun can begin.

The side tensioner on my 372xpg works just fine (so far), but I would keep it "as is" for starters.
If you find the front tensioner annoying over some time, you can change it, but you need a new sprocket cover as well, I think (it may be possible to mod the original one).

If that saw has 6 hours on it, I couldn't tell. It looks brand new.

Thats because you are only looking at it with one eye..............:hmm3grin2orange:

sorry had to, you set yourself up for it.

i forgot..........

side tensioner works fine.i have never had a problem.i'd just buy a clutch cover complete from bailey's.

Thats a new one on me. Never had a problem.

I'll Take your word on the tensioners. But why

I just didn't like the side tensioner on my 385. Where Husky mounts them in the side cover, they just feel kinda cheap - not solid like a front adjuster, or like a saw mounted side adjuster. I am not a Stihl guy by any means, but I do like side tensioner like Stihl and Dolmar use much better.

Yea the side tensioner does have a loose feel to them. I'll check mine out and see why.
Looks like something to post some pictures about.
Why not I think we have covered everything else about chainsaws.

My 371 and 395 have the old style tensioner and I don't really mind it. More solid feeling than my 7900's side tensioner, although I like the Stihl tensioner the best like on my 066.

That husky tensioner along the bar is not so bad if you use a long narrow screwdriver as opposed to a scrench to turn it. The scrench is pretty awkward in the tight quarters.

The only time that tensioner annoys me is when I am switching chains that are much different in length. Having to turn that bolt a bunch of turns is a little more trouble than a side mount.
