I have a couple of these for yard work and just got a couple more for parts. The parts saws are the points free type.

My question is can I use parts off a points free saw to convert a points type motor to the pointless type? Maybe the flywheels would need to be used also?

Would it just be the matter of swapping the coil from a point free saw onto the older points type motor?

I looked at an IPL and it specifically lists two different part numbers for the points style and electronic ignition modules.

You can compare two flywheels (from the two different ignition types) and note the location of the flywheel key in relation to the magnets.

After I posted the question I did look at a parts list and noticed that the "Rotor&Starter" pawl(flywheel assembly) and the "Crankshaft assemblies" are different between the two versions of the saws. So for now I'll stick with one saw being a points engine and the other being points less.

Then again might see what it takes to get the "spare" with the points free engine running! If it seems to have good compression might swap carb from the points engine if needs be.
