Getting closer. I doubled up all of the gaskets on the intake. That meant I only needed to clearance 1 fin.

It fits. I cut the shroud, too to accomodate it, but didn't take a picture of that.

I didn't take any pictures while I was hackin' along on the tank. It almost fits. The bolt boss at 12 o'clock on the reed cage has to be cut off and I need to file some more clearance at the back of the box to clear the carb as well as either side for a throttle rod and return spring.

When I'm done, I'll get pictures of what it looks like off of the saw.

Oh and forget about the manual oiler. Most of the insert and "tube" for the button isn't there anymore :msp_tongue:.

I need to clean my bench, too. What a mess!

Ron, I drilled holes where I wanted corners. Hacksaw in a hand holder not a bow to go hole to hole. Trimming now with rat tail file and a cylinder burr in the dremel. Easy on the dremel, it EATS mag quick.

Pics or it didn't happen/pics are worth a thousand words. Right...

Who put that in there?!?

All that sticks above the box. All-thread with a bend in the boss will retain the cover.

Left side of box going for max throttle shaft clearance.

Right side attempting same.

Airbox top-down as wide as I feel safe with hand tools trying to prevent getting into the fuel seam.

For all you long-bar/crap wood cutters that punish manual overrides, I reckon you could bore the manual oiler button .020 over and be good to go :D!

:msp_drool:

That is nice...

That shiny flywheel/starter cover will likely put people off regarding you challenging them to a race...

101 does have that ring to it... rolls off the tongue nicely too...

How did you fix the starter pulley?

How did you fix the starter pulley?

The nose-piece is counter-clockwise threaded to the rope spool. I had a shorty on the shelf (non-airhorn flywheel cover [aka everyting except a MC-101/SP-125 flywheel cover]). Swapped outer covers and back cover/mount off the shorty in place of the air horn one and the taller pawl engagement. Done.

I am trying to split the 125 tank that Ambull gave me (don't ask why). I don't have a dremel or die cutter. A jig saw with hack blade or coarser blade barely cuts it and the cut is pretty ragged. Best results so far have been with a sawsall hack blade in a handle but still I have only cut about 6" in 45 minutes - this is killing me. Any suggestions. I'm afraid that if I continue with my current method I'll be 85 before I'm done and I'll likely break the delicate webbing at the handle. Any suggestions? Also I don't need a mag fire in the chainsaw lab (aka my basement). Thanks, Ron

Hey Ron, just a thought but go to your local Home Depot and get a Bosch carbide jig saw blade and give that a try. When I was cutting a hole for a recessed pedal for the trolling motor on the deck of my bass boat I went through probably 4 regular 'hack' blades in a couple of hours and only cut about 5 inches. I got the carbide blade and was finished in 30 minutes with a clean cut. Like butter!

Started working on this thing again. Starting to wonder why I even tried, but I do enjoy trying to figure this out. More grinding on the airbox for better fit. I had to cut the boss off the bottom of the carb to clear the rear a/v mount.

I have the carb soaking in the Chem-Dip tank for now. I always heard about duck-bills in these. Does it go in the big, black hole in the middle of this photo? That one was full of "roofing tar" that I assume was the gooey remnants of the old one.

The interior of these carbs is considerably busier than a flatback or HL, but I love that there's no welch plugs to bother with.

I still don't know what to do to get a throttle control set up. I am seriously considering cutting off the half-moon throttle linkage attachment on the left side and reattaching it 1/8" to 3/16" in-board. I can't go anymore than that or it'll hit the mount nut unless I shape one differently.

In the meantime, I'll get the rear a/v finally mocked up and put in, or try to :msp_tongue:.

I have a hard copy of the McCulloch Pressure Pulse carburetor book at home. If you don't have one, I can try to make a copy one way or another and get you one. It will be at least next week until I'm home however.

Hey, there's a chance I'll be up in the Zeeland area in the next three weeks, you wouldn't happen to be anywere near the western part of your state would you?

Mark

Quick update. I have a plan for the throttle setup. I'm going to cut the shaft. No time right now, which is okay since I'm waiting on parts, some will take longer than others :D.

It is. 404. Some work & parts precludes starting it. That 4-6 week thing is how long it'll take for video. Crucial piece there.
