Not sure what I've got here but it was a deal I couldn't pass up. I know it's a Homelite but someone scratched the name plate but it looks like it starts with X and ends with 0. The serial # is 2048991. Any ideas. The 24" bar looks brand new except the rust.

Sounds like an XP-1000 to me. Big, older saw, specs available on Mike's site. The frame was originally used on the C-series, then went on to the huge 2100.

Cool! Now I have something to go on. It's kind of weird it was almost like someone intentionally scratched off the model #'s but not the serial #. There is a faint decal on the saw in front of the air filter cover but I can't make it out either, the last 2 #'s might be 01. The carb has HL197B on it and it's very clean, the carb that is, it still has it's air filter intact. Is it rare or pretty common?
Grateful

Does the decal seem to be just lettering, or is there any kind of design? The C's had a big multicolor "V". I don't think it could be any of the later models.

As far as being rare, I don't think it is compared to other old Homelites. Piles of C series are out there and I've seen quite a few XP-1000s on eBay. Usually in the $50-100 range. Not bad money for a old saw, but not loads like a 2100. Later XP-1050s seem to go for much more.

They're neat big ones. One of the types (like the whole Mac 250-type and earlier line) that was made as the saw industry was moving from big old upright clunkers to modern (post-'65 styles) design. I got an old C-7 a while back that was run over by something. Still have the carb and other internal bits around here somewhere.

You want a muffler? I have the one off my flat C-7. I know the stack is cooler, but when you actually want to do some cutting...

Tony, you fix it up and then find some wood!

Hmm. a muffler might be nice lol how much for it John? Have any other useful parts?

You mean find some wood very close by you don't want to carry these to far. lol:D

tony ,other than restoring it for a collection.it would probably have good low end torque for say a wench. u mechanics would know better about such stuff.

I finally got a good picture of the saw ID tag. I believe some of you guys were right, it's a XP-1000. There's no info at collectors corner on this saw. Does anyone have any info on it at all, cc's or HP? I sent pics to the guys at Collectors Corner and they're analyzing them too. It's not a C-9 my FIL has one and I compared the two, not the same.
Thanks,
Grateful

The XP-1000 is the predecessor of the XP-1020, and Super 1050,among others. All had 6.1 cubic inches 100cc's that is. THe XP-1000 had a manual oiler and a over-running bearing starter. It has a 4 pyrmid reed cage. THe later 1020 and 1050's had auto oilers. Eventually the 1050 went to a Walbro governed carb, to pass EPA.

I finally put some of my stuff up for sale including the XP-1000. Several of ya'll emailed me wanting more info on it so I thought I'd let ya know they're up for sale. I posted a link in the Used Equipment forum under, "4 Saws up for grabs", I didn't want to post a link here because I thought it would be inappropriate. It's getting closer to fall so I'll probably be back in the woods and on the boards more. Here in NC I haven't been able to keep up with the grass and weeds much less cutting any wood with all this rain we've had this year. We're on our way to a record rainfall.
Thanks,
Grateful
