Just starting ...

Just getting going on this old stuff. This is a Bolens Thrifty (3010) that must have come from the transition period (?) just after FMC bought Titan. It's Titan yellow before they switched to Bolens Green. The motor plate is gone, so I don't have a serial number :( Donated to the park by an old woodsman (92) who cut trees on road building projects all over the central California area. He said to take saw as it was/is too heavy for him now, he just runs little saws for fire wood and such :)

It's mostly all there. Turns over and has compression. Had old bad gas in the tank. Cleaning it all out now. Working on the kill switch. Desperately in need of 7/16" pitch chain for this old bar and clutch, or ideas on how to convert to 404 ...

Will be used in a history program for the school kids here at Bothe-Napa Valley Park about logging the redwoods in the coast range. Something for the kids to ponder. Will have a early gen Clinton coming in the next few weeks. the program will talk about axe logging up to modern equipment. We have a few big old growth stumps just off the trails so they can see the size of the trees the old boys had to deal with :)

Heres Mike Acres' profile on your Bolens. Looks like the carb is a Tillotson HL. That's good news, as kits/parts for those carbs are easy to come by. I can rebuild that carb and clean out/rehab the fuel system for you if you'd like. It's likely that this'll get you up and running. I have no source of 7/16" chain however. Only loop of 7/16" chain I have is on the 25" roller nose bar on my Mono built Montgomery Wards WD60 (that I hope to bring to a GTG at the park sometime in the future).

It will be my slowest running chainsaw if you noticed the operating RPM.
 
Yep. Between the low RPM's and the gear drive, you're going to be in the cut for a while Jim. You need to outfit your hardhad as a 'foam dome' and make sure you have comfortable boots.....:D
 
I should be able to chew my way through the log faster.

You're a shooter. Did you see the Top Shot episode with the kentuky flintlock pistols (that they didn't use patches in.......but that's another discussion)? While talking about the loading process, Terry said that by the time he got the pistol loaded, the target will have rotted. Same with a log in front of that old saw I'll bet....:D

That has the float model Tilly, right? Saw is made by Strunk.
Have you checked the bore size? I just finished one of these and the bore is 1 3/4", not 2" like a normal AH47. I believe that makes it about 59 ccs instead of 77. My model is 355.83131.

Got this awhile go could not down load the pitchers but thanks to Cliff for walking me through it again I was able to but it on it needs a little tlc but it will run again Thanks Cliff :msp_w00t:
