Any info on the Jonsered CS 2255? And is $349 new a good deal?

I may be a bit premature but I know that sometime in future I will need a bigger saw than my lonely Husky 435. I have some small trees that need felled around my place. I need to run the 435 and get accustomed to using a chainsaw first though.

But I was at my local Tractor Supply last night and saw that they had the Jonsered CS 2255 on sale for $349. That seems like a good price for a 55 cc saw but I haven't really done any looking. I don't think it is a pro saw, maybe a semi-pro because it seems to have a split crank case. Anybody got info on the CS 2255?

You may be able to do more research if you search for husqvarna 455 rancher. The 2255 is a 455 rancher wearing red clothes.
Not gonna find a lot of love for those saws here. They serve a purpose and if you use them as intended
It would likely serve you fine.
I can't comment on the good price or bad, but if it at tsc, it's probably pretty low. Think about how you'd get that saw serviced though. TSC isn't gonna do it. Spend $20 more at a local dealer would be worth it IMO.

Edit: it is not a split crankcase saw. Plastic clamshell all the way.

Agree with all above. The 455 Ranchers aren't bad saws but I honestly would buy a 450/2250 instead. You gain much less weight for pretty close to the same performance. But as much as those saws aren't liked on this sire, there are an awful lot of them out there so someone likes them. I know a guy with a firewood business who has been running 2 455's for a number of years. He has a 24 inch bar on one of them.

TS had those 2255's on sale this weekend for $299.

Get the echo 590 much more bang for the buck

Well, good reasons not to get one. It would have been an impulse purchase and pretty ill advised. I don't have any Echo dealers close by, just a HD. I might stop by and look sometime.

I saw several references to both the 590 and 620 being based on the same engine. Trying to figure out why there is a $250 price difference between the 590 and 620. Are there any other differences between the 590 and 620P other than what is listed in this thread? http://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/differences-between-echo-cs-590-and-cs-600p.244303/

EDIT: I do see that Echo says you can run 24" and 27" bars on the 620P but wouldn't those be a little big for a 60cc saw? Maybe if you used skip chain.

Thanks for the info!

Answered my own question: Better Oregon power match bar
And a aluminum full wrap handle bar. I have also heard that a change in stock porting gives the 620 more power.

Still wondering about the bar sizes though.

I am not really up on the Echo saws at all other than the fact that a friend of mine bought a 620, and I really like it. If that 590 is based on the same frame then I would say its nice. And for that price its even nicer. My nearby shop sells Echo and Jonsered. He doesn't stock much in the line of Echo saws. Just the small ones. He sells more Jonsereds than Echo, but sells lots of Echo trimmers and combi tools.

The wrap handle is on the 620PW. IIRC, the 620P has a different carb than the 590. I would get a 20".

Spending an extra 50 clams (on the 590 ) and spending an extra 250 (on a 620) are two totally different things (and two totally different saws <-edit: not really totally diff saws) IMO.
What do you really need in a saw? Needing a bigger saw is kinda broad.
The 590 is a lot of saw for the money. The 2255 does just fine with an 18" bar and is def not just some POS that one might infer after spending time on this forum. I have both but use neither anymore now that I have a 562...

Thank you, you are correct. The 620P is not wrap while the 620PW is. I believe, but am not sure, that they all can accept the wrap handle.

Yah, larger saw is kinda broad. See part of the problem is that I haven't actually used my 435 for anything yet. I have a couple of small projects but everything else I see to do is felling. Kinda hard to explain but you would understand if I walked you through it.

Right now, I can't justify a really large pro saw. But the $400 CS 590 is a really great deal. Sure, it loses a little power to the 620 but as long as the carb is adjustable, I don't think I will care. Still, I am not planning to run out and buy anything soon. But it doesn't hurt to plan ahead. Maybe I should spin this off into a thread on the 590?

the 620P has a lot of built in HD features and hot rodding added. it is a better saw than the 590. it has a bigger carb, unlimited coil, HD crankshaft , , its own flywheel and a few other hop-ups the 590 don't have IIRC . it is a 60cc saw that is intended to run with 70cc class industrial saws.

now i bought a 590 a while back , haven't modded it any-- and i haven't found a lot it can't do. it has very good power as well-- won't quite keep up with my hot rod 372XP or ms440s but they don't leave it in the dust either -- the 590 is a very strong saw.

the 590 compared to a "rancher" --the 590 just thumps all over the rancher-- that one ain't even funny. the 590 easily thumps the stihl 'homeowner" saws too.

what the cs-590 timberwolf is is a cheapened up 600P , it has a plastic handle, a laminated bar, and a spur sporcket. mine came with a good chain-- i think it may have a 'econo" oiler --but i ain't 100% sure it don't run the same oiling as the 600p . when i tested mine with a 24" bar it seemed to oil it enough--YMMV on that--LOL

all the 59.5 cc echos are strong saws with the 590 it is more of the price leader of the pack.

i have run the jeebers out of mine-- cut some big stuff with it too. for what the 590 costs it is the best bang for buck out there. you can get a better saw--but your going to have to go full pro and that is going to be a lot more costly.
