Anyone using the zigzag? how is it? likes and dislikes?

Check out the one treevet started. All the good info is on the last couple pages though.

I used mine for the first time today. I am def digging it! Not as smooth as a good hitch on decent but still not bad. It tends slack like a champ.

Will it slip when it's over something smooth like a crane hook or does it bind up pretty good.

Looking at the design, I would think they had that issue covered.

I just get concerned because my distel needs another wrap on the crane hook then when I get in the tree it's tight as hell.
I was gonna do an Lock jack but this thing looks pretty cool the way it tends slack and the built in pulley.

I dunno anout that for obvious reasons, but just looking at this thing, I would THINK it'll be ok. I'm ordering one for myself. Looks slick.

I will hopefully be doing a crane job on Monday but the weather may put it off. I will let u guys know how it works off the hook. I can say that using it today I had a couple of occasions that I was hanging in mid air and descending was a bit touchy. No big deal just takes a little practice so as not be "jerky" or "bouncey". I was tied in natural crotch so descending in mid air off a hook may be slightly sketchy. I am sure it will be fine, just a quick learning curve n ur good. With my feet against the tree though it was pretty darn smooth. Like I said earlier, this device is mint when it comes to slack tending. I am glad I bought it.

Does your hitch also slip when your using a friction saver?

Yes but taking the time to adjust it is a pain and time consuming I use three wraps around branches and 4 on the hook so I keep tying from tree to ball I wrap the tail around my ankle and its enough to stop the slip just a pain. That's why I thought this thing might be nice.

Using a friction saver fir crane work would eat up a ton if time since I use so many crotches I'm usually only tied in 10ft above my head when cutting then back to the hook.

When I do crane work I usually use a short rope when moving with the hook around 50ft srt and leave my long rope in the tree so u don't have to drag 200ft through the canopy. I go sling the limb then slide over to my longer rope. Depends on how big of a tree tho.

If the crane breaks down the guys are gonna be giving me payback with the big shot to get me a longer rope

Sounds like you need a different hitch. I use a vt and have never had a problem hooking to a crane or friction saver and i weigh more then you too.

If I was using a short rope like that I would carry a bailout bag on my harness. Fire fighters carry them when going interior on fires. You can get some 8mm prussik cord and a ball out mini figure 8. Double wrap the 8 and you could clip all that to the back of your harness for in case the crane breaks down.
