I was thinking of heading over and checking out the goods so to speak.

Must be a secret society type of event. I Googled:

PA Timberfest
Pennsylvania Timberfest
Pennsylvania Timbersports
Pennsylvania Timber Festival (finally got a possible lead)
Pennsylvania Timber Days (another possible lead)

Results: 2 possibilities (neither called Timberfest)

1. Pennsylvania Timber Days ( http://www.greaterconnellsville.org/timberdays/index.html ) Out of date website, no further information.

2. Timber 2007 ( http://patimbershow.cas.psu.edu/ ) This Friday and Saturday in Rock Springs, PA
edit: Cripes, it's not even "Rock Springs" like they have posted. It's "Rockspring"

Hmmm, seems to me some misdirection/obscurity for these events. Do I need to know a secret password or handshake or something?

Na I don't think you need to know a secret handshake but it would help if I had the right name for ya!

Right you are the correct name is Timber 2007
found at the following link

Still a :newbie:

Me

I'm thinking of going up. I should be there if nothing came up (I'm getting ready for hay season). BTW off topic but, did any body go to the connellsville timber days in sept? I was there. :)

That is a real nice area out there on 45 towards State College. I just might check it out tomorrow.

OK, schedule is clear, and barring any circumstances beyond my control, I'll be there. (wearing my Husky T-shirt so everyone can scowl at me!) :p I'll be easy to pick out, I'll be the only red convertible amongst a sea of pick-up trucks. :jester:

I am heading out around 9am, that will put me there around 10:30. I just asked the Mrs. if she was coming along, expecting a "no". To my surprise she said "sure". I get the distinct feeling she is afraid I am going to spend $$$.
Imagine that!!:)

I just got back from the show. Definitely a show geared towards the harvesting portion of the industry, though there was some other things like bandmills, wood splitters, and chippers. Not much in the lines of arborist supplies/information. As for chainsaws, Dolmar, Jonsered, and Stihl were represented there. Still, it was impressive to that side of the things. I didn't realize Pennsylvania play such a large part in the timber industry.

Alright, I'm baked and beat. Six hours of driving and six hours at the show in 90F heat and a blazing sun, I've got my fill for the day.

Oh, before I go, I did say there would be a sea of pickups, didn't I? Standing on the shore of such said sea. Do you see my convertible? Yea, me neither. :biggrinbounce2:

I didn't realize Pennsylvania play such a large part in the timber industry.

PA has > 16 million acres of forests, about 60% of state's area. 12.5 million are privately owned.
Forest products industry is > $5 billion / year.
#1 state in nation for hardwood volume.

The show is small, but nice and informative. State agencies, etc. were there, and there was some interesting info. on how to increase profits. It is not a show with any "swap meet" stuff or flea market junk.
Many do not realize that although the "BIG" timber is gone from Pa., we have probably the most diverse and valuable hardwoods East of the Mississippi. Alot of the Allegheny plateu in the Northern counties have not been timbered in 75 years. Also, much of the low-lying family farms are long uncut. I can drive ten minutes from home and find 4 foot circumference red oaks, 100+ foot Hemlock, etc.
By the way, the "best" thing at the show according to my 7 yr. old were the Kettle Fries, a two foot long spiral cut potato chip made while you watch. I think I have to agree!;)

Sorry guys, I didn't get there(I would like to of, but I didn't). I had too many things to do.:bang:

Those are some nice pics you got there. Those look like some pretty nice mills. And that circle processor looks amazing. Do you know how fast it did that pile? Evan

Not sure, as the pile was pretty far along by the time I got there, but he was making a cut about every 5 seconds.

Cut and split 8 ways every 5 seconds, that pile would grow pretty darn quick, I'd say. Pretty slick machine. There were a bunch of other processors, but that one was the most interesting.
