Hey, anybody out there running a husky 372 with only a modified muffler and no other mods.?.... What's your opinion on the extra power gain?.... How's the noise level?... Any other thoughts?

Thanks, Jeff

I use a 372 that has a Ken Dunn modified muffler, and was power tuned by Madsens.A Madsens saw has a modest gain compared to Wakers,Ken Dunn,Dennis,or any of the other saw builders here. For the price I paid($50.00) it was well worth the power gain. The saw pulls ALOT better with all size bars. The only down side is it is louder, enough so you can't run it without hearing protection. If given the choice I would diffenitly have Ken Dunn modify me another one.I have a stock muffler also, and and after a few weeks of trying out the modified muffler I put the stok one back on just to see if I could tell a difference.I will run the modified one. :D Dan

C'mon guys, there has to be more than 1 of you using a 372 with a modified muffler!!!! Anyhow, thanks Dan for your input I will be adding a modified muffler soon....just not sure who's.

Jeff

yukon,
at the present time i am in my office and the record book is in the shop. i have a walkerized muffler on one of my stock 372xp's. as far as power, a nice difference. as far as noise, not much difference. as soon as possible i'll send everyone the test results from when the saw was completely stock settings to carburator tuned with the walkerized muffler. very nice improvement!!!!!
i also have a 372xp that has been walkerized with a stock muffler. i will conduct performance tests on this saw then add a walkerized muffler and continue the testing.
until next time, i can assure you, i have NO diss-appointments (ok,my spelling stinks) in walker products. also please remember, i am not one sided. i try to be fair to everyone. if you have a product you would like compared,PLEASE contact me.

Marty, thanks for the post. I'll be looking forward to seeing the test results. The more I run the 372 the more I appreciate the saw that it is. Just curious, where in N.Y. is your shop? I travel from Western N.Y. to Northern N.Y. quite often. Maybe I could put a face with a name :)

Thanks, Jeff

Jeff,
I have a Walkerized 372. You won't be sorry in the least. I love mine & Im pro-Stihl....Rotax Rick

Creep on loggin'...

sorry about the delay but here are the comparisions. all the saws are running 3/8x50x72 GB bars and new laser full chisel chains with 8 tooth rims. carbs set to husky recommendations. the wood is 8x8 tulip and each time is one cut. the cuts were all down. time in seconds.

372xp new out of the box; 2.94,2.77,2.58

372xp out of the box walkerized but stock muffler;1.93,1.77,1.86

372xp w/ appx 80 hrs with walkerized muffler;1.67,1.68,1.68

372xp out of the box walkerized with walkerized muffler;1.75,1.93,2.05

372xp w/appx 80 hrs;2.10,2.09,1.99

Based on your numbers, it looks like just the muffler modification is the way to go. Looks like the time/money for walkerizing the whole saw is pretty much a waste when a stock saw with just a modified muffler runs stronger. I may be wrong, but they are your numbers.

Brian, I was thinking the same thing...but ...the saw with only the Walkerized muffler had 80 hrs. on it. What will a saw that has been Walkerized with a Walkerized muffler do after 80 hrs. of use? No doubt, just a modified muffler gives you a significant improvement. I think it will give me all I looking for.

treeclimber,
remember these things. the walkerized saw was orderd to run the stock muffler. the saw is brand new, whereas the other saw was broke in. i do not have a broke in walkerized to compare to. once i get off the disabled list i will. i did find the throttle response in the walkerized with the stock muffler better than all the rest. but again, the saw was ordred that way.
i am not sure but i think walkers have a dynometer. that would give yet another good comparision.
i am not disappointed in Walker products!! marty
