Did you consider a roof rack? Seems all the tree services and hot shots use something like that...a locking cage type thing that is on top of the truck/van. You could put some Yakima type rails up, then bolt an aluminum chest toolbox to it. Weatherproof and lockable.

Or, you could rig up something like this. Compact and keeps the flatbed clear.

Any more pics ? I like that

some real nice ideas in here and some cool toolboxes as well
I need something removable or unobtrusive so I can haul pallets of material (gotta get the airbags installed)
I am going to do something that keeps the saws upright on the headache rack, just want to make sure it is lockable.

You can buy vinyl covered cable with loops on each end that you could thread through the handles and anchors on the truck and lock to thwart thieves.

I made my own. You can buy this cable by the foot, and I used a garage door kit with the aluminum pieces to form the loops. Then flattened the aluminum with a hammer to lock the cable in place. Then all you need is a padlock. I use this same idea to lock my saws to my workbench. You'd need to bring a cable or bolt cutter to steal them.

From that pic how close to the ground do you think the 28" bar is? Hint, I'll take a pic with a tape to the ground.
It looks to me like its hanging below the bumper... I'm not sure if it really is, but that's how it looks from here. If that was on my truck, it would get bent.

Far above axle clearance. Could something happen? Of course. And I have taken the saw out on more than one occasion just to be on the safe side.
