I have one in good working condition, but need a chain.
The manual calls out 1/4" Oilomatic standard (3 link) and
-standard S, sprocket 8 teeth, 16" bar.
The links are stamped "5" for what that's worth.

My local outfitter says "Haven't seen one of these in a long time"
and is checking with his expert, so I thought I'd see if there
was any knowledge I could pick up from your guys, as well.

I guess what I am finding is that Stihl (and maybe others)
do not feature the 1/4" pitch in favor of the 3/8".

When I took it to the Stihl dealer, he had some old chain, stamped
"3" (0.050 GA) but it did not match up with the sprocket nose on my bar.
In addition to the WoodsmanPro at Bailey's, I see Stihl offers an
Oilomatic Rapid Micro chain (#3856) that is also 1/4", 0.050 - am I out
of luck?
Does anyone else use a "5" stamped (0.058 GA) chain?

Can some kind soul let me know any more info I might need
and/or the best place to buy one?

Thanks much!

If it didn't match the nose

There is a very good chance either the chain was not 1/4 inch or the sprocket isn't.

I do not recall ever seeing 1/4 stihl in .058 and can't really recall much of any 1/4" in anything but .050 but anything is possible

If you can post some pics of the bar and chain it may give a clue.

I stock 1/4" Carlton because I find is more than close enough to the Stihl and the price difference is quite substantial.

Do you have the old chain?

Sure, I'll post some pix & measurements tonight, thanks.
I do have the original chain.
The chain the dealer had was stamped 3, but may not have been 1/4",
interesting thought.

Help

Did you pm lake or one of those guys yet??? They are the AUTHORITIES on these Stihls dude... I've yet to see'em stumped man...

that chain is no longer made if it's the one i had

time to convert to the new stuff if the saw still runs good.those are nice saws if you keep all the air leaks in check.

Or maybe not...

Well, I tried to take some digital pictures up against a ruler, but none of them came out worth a damn.
Further info, though - The chain has 80 drive links and the stamping actually says "25" with a real faint 2. I measured the pitch, and it is 1/4".
The other side of the chain was regularly stamped "O" (Oregon?)
I recovered the chainsaw from my father's garage, so the saw & chain were
last touched in the early 1980's (bought in late 1970's).

Any suggestions? I can try to provide some measurements if I have missed a detail.
Thanks a lot!

I can make you as many chains as you want

.20 per DL so your chains will be $16 each plus shipping.

That is 1/4" .050 chain

My 020 has 1/4" .050 chain. I believe it to be original.

The 3/8 picco chain won't have 80 links in a 16" loop

Welcome to the forum, I see you've just joined up. Member you quoting has not been here since 04/2015. Plenty of sponsors/members sell 1/4" chain so hopefully someone can sort you out.
