Cougar Saddle

one of my students just bought one, so far he likes it, far better than the other Weaver saddles that have been around sense before I started(1980). the ACRTinc Instructors were at Weaver leather in 2002 and (Weaver asked all of us what we looked for in a saddle?) 10 climbers all had different things each one preferred. The student's we added a Micro Pulley 2i, we will experiment with a shorter bridge. The WideBack looks like it and has been a good thing

Treemandan had/has? one. Do a search, you will find his thread.

Me, I am probably going to pick one up for my guys to try out. Blue ridge has a pretty good deal on them right now.

Got my Cougar on Tuesday and did a little spur climbing in it. Took it out again today for a little top rope action (body thrust w/ split tail and micro pulley). It's my first arborist saddle, so I really don't have much basis for comparison. I was used to rock climbing harnesses before, so this thing is like a luxury car in comparison. ;-)

It has a butt-load of gear hangers on the back. Here's a pic if you haven't seen the back:

So far all I've attached to it is my digital camera (camera case directly to belt) and saw (via double-ring lanyard with paddle carabiner on the belt).

Its Ok. works real good and all. no complaints. Sure , ya gotta watch you nuts and of course that bridge is for, well, I don't know what its for maybe the trash can. Everything else is what I was looking for when I bought my umpteenth saddle.

The hardware loops on these are higher up on the back than the old weavers, kinda a pain to reach so far back and high like that.

thats what i was wondering about i dont know about that bridge? i mean we climb on rope like that but for somereason it just dont sit right, The bridge on the Sequia belts anybetter, i think ima just stick to my ol weav with loops and Dee rings!!

If you look at the saddle thoroughly, it is exactly the same as a buckingham glide, which some love and some hate. The bridge on the glide is a much beefier rope though

I have had it for 4 months and i really like it. i tried alot out before i bought this and i am glad i got it. the rope bridge seems to be pretty strong, i trust in it.
