I met Wulkie at the first SSA conference about ten years ago. That started another phase in my education. He opened my eyes to looking at trees much differently. Thanks to him I learned how much better it is to do less to a tree and more for it.

All of the arbo discussion forums are worse off not having him part of the discussion. Too bad the brow beaters get so nasty sometimes.

civilized respect

Bobbo did have a lot to say; some was mildly insulting. I took a lot of that and dished it back too, but it was always in the context of an exploration of living tree science issues. Even though ideas were held onto way too long, and ad hominem slams crept in, there was always some measure of civilized respect left to keep the discourse on a human level.

It had nothing to do with flowers or poetry; because it stayed above the junkyard-dog bushcheneyish level of foul name-calling and meanness, I was always ready to see what he had to say. I hope his personal stuff gets worked out and he returns.

Guy, there seems to be some irony in the above statement. How can you admire the non-name calling and foul meanness of this man while engaging in the name calling you so despise?

If you are talking about Rescueman, I disagreed with him on some things, and agreed with him on others. At first I would get very mad and "post angry" when I read some of the things he said. But then I realized that my hot-tempered posts did no good. It was highly unlikely that anyone would read what I had typed and change their minds, especially when written in such a nasty tone.
