...burn it all winter to help the wood furnace keep the 300+ yr old house somewhat warm...the house has an outdoor boiler now which heats the house nicely now, but it still gets used quite often...its a good glove/boot dryer for the winter months.

Some of those old wood cook stoves are a work of art.

If/when I build an add-on steel building garage to the house, I intend to put one in. I've always liked them, but the boss doesn't want one in the house. She likes wood burners, but doesn't want two in the house (it would work a lot better than one). They're neat to use and I love the look of them.

looks a lot like a Ashley woodstove I used to own........
My old stove was a Ashley too. I had a double wide trailer with a fire place. The fireplace was useless. I hooked the stove up to the chimely and it would do some serious heating. During power outages, we would lift the top and throw on a pot of soup beans or stew and let it cook all day. It actually had fold up legs to keep the top propped up. My stove didnt have the fan kit. I took a couple of coat hangers to make a little frame to make a small hood. covered the hood with aluminum foil and just sort of arched it over the top of the stove. The hood would direct the heat forward from the stove. With a really hot fire you could watch that hood flap like a flag in a breeze.

mine worked fine,,for about three years. then the side panels warped waaaaay out of shape!!! that's when I bought the riteway,,and have had that ever since.. I even warped the outflow cast plate in the riteway!! its called,,waaaayyyy bad windows in the house,,and needed better insulation!!! I used to burn about 8 cords heating this house. now, maybe three!!!
