I called around and got a quote from commercialinsurance.net, they could cover me for 3k a year, they also did not have an arborist specific option, only landscape insurance, I did tell them I would be climbing over 20 feet, cause they asked. I live in Washington State, and am a new to running a tree business, though I do have several years of experience working for other tree/landscape companies.

Is 3k a year about the going rate for arborist insurance? (I know there is regional difference)

Thanks

Dan

They might cover tree work under a general "landscape" badge. The fact that they know you climb, perform removals, and work in a hazardous environment are key. Ask your agent if the particular provider is a RRG (Risk Retention Group). Typically high risk occupations are underwritten by RRGs. I would proceed cautiously with anyone else. Look into Errors and Omissions insurance also.

All state quoted me around $700/ yr. IPFS was 1300. My business is small, and they didn't ask a lot of questions. I told them I was a tree service, so I assume they know what that means. There wasn't anything in the small print about climbing or hazards or anything like that.

Here in NE Indiana I was quoted $800/year $500K/$500K aggregate. It was $1100/year $1M/$1M aggregate. That is only for pruning and removals. If I were to invest in a stump grinder it would cost more due to different hazards.

You should be around a grand. Any agent should help you out. Check your car agent if he's local.

Wow, its a lot more than that out here....we carry $1M/$2M and its more than triple that. Don't even ask what workers comp is...

Stay away from the internet company's. Stick with someone local. I switched to one and pre paid the year, then a month later I started getting bills, I called, they said to disregard, then I got cancellation letters! Called again, they said disregard.... again. THEN,lol, I get the cancellation. I call, go high and to the right on them, get them to send me a statement that I was in fact covered till this June. Getting quotes now to switch. These aholes have the nerve to call the other day to renew, I told them to get bent. Nothing but a nightmare. Worried the whole time that if, by chance, I did have a claim, that it would be hell to get them to pay.
