Alright I put on a few pounds this past winter and had to up size my trousers. I ordered a couple of pairs of Arborwear original tree climber's pants. These are the most comfortable work pants that I have ever owned, but the crotch blew out of both pairs within a month? My work has me up and down and all over the place like a monkey with a hammer. Is it my newly fattened a** or is it the Arborwear Originals? Should I just get some of them spandex workout pants or what?

Thanks

there is no way your wearing the nylon tec-pants. the org's are canvas/cotton and imo a wast of hard earned moneys

so you like the nylon-tec pants?

Yes, mine are the 12.5 oz cotton canvas "Originals". I was rather dissatisfied to find that they were made overseas, especially for what I paid for them.

how much $. the tec pants are well worth the money and are down right the best pants i ever owned. i tore the crotch outa every pair of pants i ever climbed in except the tec pants. they are tough as nails.

Why don't you email Arborwear? They're really a great bunch of people there and they care about the product they're selling. As far as being made overseas, someone from AW posted a lengthy response to that issue some time ago. If you can do a search it's interesting reading.
Regards,
Phil

I've been wearing the original pants since they first became available, never had a problem. With my last order I had a problem with the zipper. Call or e-mail them they will send you new pairs for sure. They are a great company!!!

Cost too much? They are a specialty product with a relatively small inventory. How can they compete with bulk jeans on price?

Made over seas? they tried and tried using shops in the USofA, but to get the Quality Assurance they needed to give us a good product they would have had to price them way higher then they are.

I used to talk to them regularly when I went to tradeshows several times a year, they had some real horror stories with bad QA and seconds getting through to dealers, and slow production runs.

JPS, are you saying that AW had the issues mentioned with US companies or starting up production overseas?

For me the Arborwear pants last 2 to 3 times as long as off the shelf name brand jeans, maybe longer. The added thickness at the knees is a great aid when rope climbing and positioning for a cut.

I'll take a little more than added thickness. Give me something I can take a tree down with, at least a small dead tree, more like a sapling. Kmart got a special on some Wranglers?

It was the US companies that were bad. Was debated on the boards a while ago...........

Yeah, overseas you can find a company to do what you want. Here they are either small lot boutiques, or large volume shops for the $10 truckstop jeans for people who will buy anything cheap with a red, white and blue label.

The Problem Lies Within .

I realize this is a serious question being posed to the masses but it's gotten to post # 12 without someone making a wise crack (no pun intended) . This doesn't sound like the members I have grown to know and love ,lol . To detemine if it's you or the pants get a tape measure , have a couple of assistants walk it around your new a** and have a third person take a reading . You might need a good long tape . Then compare the reading with the size on the pants tag , usually found inside the waistband . If the numbers don't agree you could indeed be the root of the problem . I hear Jones Tent and Awning is having a Spring Blowout , you may look to them for your climbing apparel needs . :greenchainsaw:

Personally, I was trying to be civil but in honesty: I have the same problem with any pants, there is nothing that can hold back the monster.

If I am not blowin out the inseam I am usually ripping a hole in the butt! Went through the cheapy blue jeans for years till the wife bought me a pair of AW's ( she said something about being tired of seeing my a$$ hanging out all of the time:) ) Seriously though if your inseam is not measured right you will rip the crotch out every time. I have always had a problem with jeans ( short legs huge quads and hams ) and developed the habit of grabbing the front of my jeans just above each knee and pulling them up before squatting to pick up anything heavy so I wouldn't rip out the crotch. Remember: If something rips just make sure your not downwind!:dizzy:

Ironic that a guy using the name Small Wood posted to this thread . He probably has never had problems like you and lard a** .
Just funning you all .
I'm not sure that that's irony since that's my last name; without the space. I always wanted a big strong name like big Mo Johnson or something like that but like the old saying goes; You can pick your nose but you can't pick your name.
This might be irony. Arborwear had a warehouse sale last Sept. and I went a spent a couple hundred bucks on new pants; warehouse seconds. Lots and lots of pants. I returned home and promptly had a heart attack which put me out of action for a month. No big deal except that if you keep eating like a tree climber but don't do any climbing you start putting on pounds. By the time I got back to climbing I couldn't begin fit in any of my new pants. They just sat there on the shelf mocking me. Here's an example of the the type of people at Arborwear. I saw them at a trade show in Oct. and they offered to buy back all my pants. Great guys with a great product. I didn't sell my pants. I'm keeping them for incentive. 7 pounds gone and 14 more to go.

Irony is like that guy everybody calls "Tiny" who went to a Div. 1 school on a football scholarship to play offensive tackle @ 6' 5", 345lbs. Small wood knows what I mean.

Glad you all are enjoying the post.

I did email AW and they asked me to send them my Originals.

I'm gonna get some spandex to wear in the meantime!

I have used their pants for years . They are designed for climbers by people who climb or climbed. I will say they are great people who will make right whatever is caused from their end and some of what is out of their control. Great people who I would recommend to anyone, and I'm very picky.
