What is the difference between a bosun and a batten seat?

a bosun seat is not solid, rather like the early tree saddles with just a buttstrap...... the batten seat is a solid seat that usually is made of wood, or a "batten".....batten seat should be firm and not flex. Bosun seat flexes.....

And the batten seat is typically attached to a work positioning saddle. The bosun seat is all you get to attach your line to.
