What bar to convert an 026 to 3/8LP?

What is your point?
I have never seen a tree complain about the saw kerf......have you?
You are not milling with a 026 so I guess I am not sure why kerf is an issue.
Thin kerf is for power saving (your saw not the wood). This means you have more power available for chain speed or bar length and it's easier on the power head. I bet LP is about half the kerf of regular 3/8. Less wasted power.

Some folks just dont have all the saws for every occasion :dizzy: . So who cares if you only run 3/8. Blah blah blah

Folks want to try new stuff good. Thats how folks learn and not live under a rock.

1/4" full and micro, 3/8LP, .325, 3/8, 404 all very common today. If you own saws for different jobs at hand.

1/4" mini micro for those nice pruning cuts on those 5lb 25cc saws. Talk about a thin clean kerf. ;)

Only way you going to learn is test stuff for yourself.

Pizz on what anyone else thinks.:laughing:

I hear ya. That's actually part of why I like the LP. I should be able run it on any saw I use regularly. It cuts fast. Like you, I prefer to use only one spool vs 325 here, 3/8 there, LP on the small saws. After using it on an ms250, I believe I may switch my 026 over. It cuts nice.

I like the 3/8lp more on my ported 026 but more than anything it's the weight saving the bar and chain are super light I just wish I had it with a 24in bar for that saw.

also stihls 63ps 3/8lp chain will handle anything you throw at it power wise, I ran it my my ms660 one or twice and it didn't come apart.

I switched a 024 ( 026 jr ) to a 16" 3/8 standard. It did pretty well fully buried in a pine log leveraging it pretty hard test cutting. I still think a 18" 3/8lp setup would have been the best choice to free up power and increase cutting speed. I agreed with the guy I built the saw for that it is much easier to push wedges into wider kerfs.

Cant run full size 3/8 on the 25cc 35cc 40cc-50cc here. So no keeping things simple isnt a option when you own a bunch of different saws for different jobs.

Some folks use saws for many different jobs and need many different saws. Not just for falling and bucking or milling.

I had a ported 026 and it still wasnt good with full 3/8. Now some of my stock huskys like 3/8. 550 545 346 NE

So not a waste of money by a long shot. Lets see ya put full 3/8 on 35cc 25cc and see what happens.

I do not run 25 cc saws but I have cut a lot of wood with a 43 cc saw running 3/8.

Boy I would love to see that 43cc pulling FULL size 3/8.

Only saw I had in 45cc was 346 that was ported with 357 carb etc that could pull FULL 3/8 like a boss.

Stock heck no with 45cc and full 3/8.

You asked for an example.
I provided one.
Post a similar aged saw running LP.
I am in the middle of rebuilding that saws big brother (c5). Got it free with a siezed piston. I rarely cut anything fatter than 16 to 20 inch diameter so it'll fill the bigger bar need (24 inch bar) . I'm sure it'll be slow compared to a stihl or husq but as rarely as I use big saws, it'll be great. And with a torque monster with low chain speed, it'll be regular 3/8 on this one. Already has a 3/8 sprocket and hard nose bar. Nice old saw.

The C-Series were a damn popular saw in their day. Many had .404 but they will be happier with 3/8. I still have a NOS gear drive kit for the C-Series.
I try to stick with 3/8 on everything.
That includes my gear drives.
Ponder a bit how I do that

Here is my Homelite 770GS "Stick Shift" running 3/8. The 770GS is a two speed saw. It has a gear box that has a high and low. The first cut was in low and the second was in high.

I try not to run turds Bill with FULL 3/8.
I didnt try to prove running FULL 3/8 on a old 150 bud thats on you.    Thanks for the laugh though that was some funny chit.

I do think my CHINA clone 35cc G111 would out cut that 43cc 150 thing all day with LP aka 3/8LP anytime. That was just horrible slow thing in video.

Clone of 200T and my OEM.

Like said each of my says has a job at hand. So they all run different types of chain. :drinkingcoffee: :laughing:

Ran a test on a echo 50cc once years back. It loved 3/8LP and 325 but did not like FULL 3/8.

So why run something on a saw to be all the same in 3/8 is just stupid IMHO. When the saw clearly cuts better using 3/8LP or 325.

Have a sign on my bench I point to when needed sometimes.
