Have you heard of this.....my MS200t automatically shuts off if left running for more than a few seconds. If you keep tapping the throttle every 3 seconds, it'll run till there's no gas left.

Okay, I'm just kidding...it's not a safety feature :jester: It is a matter of saw maintenance and I'd like the help of the experts here. I am no saw expert....I think this is my first post in the Chainsaw forum...

here it goes....

Ok, the saw starts fine. I make the cut, and often, as soon as I let off the throttle, it shuts off. Sometimes, I can make a cut, hang it on my saddle running, then when I pick it up a minute later, it dies. It dies right when I am going to make the cut. It can sit on my hip for two minutes running, but as soon as it knows I am ready to use it, it dies.

The saw runs fine when at full throttle. It starts easily and consistently. When it's warmed up, it only takes one tug to get it started again.

I am thinking something either needs to be cleaned, adjusted, or replaced. Any ideas?

It's like them cigarettes that would go out on their own after a minute or two of inactivity.  They tried that back in the mid '80s, I don't know if it ever "caught on".

Embrace conservatism, Nick.  There's nothing wrong with the saw; it's conservative and has caught wind of your posts in off topic.  That's all.  It's merely trying to make you look bad.

Try opening the low needle, does it pause when you squeeze the throttle? Did it always do this or is this a recent development?

Here's where my saw ignorance becomes obvious

What do you mean by "opening the low needle?" Is that the little screws on the side (i think there's one right on top of the other)

Thanks Mike, I just found the site. Good stuff!

I'll try adjusting the lower screw monday!

The coop I work for bought a brand new fixed jet 026 Pro against my reccomendation, and it does the same thing. Oh well.

Nick, if you can't get no satisfaction with the screw adjustment, have a look at the metering diaphragm setting.  A lot of people complain about those fixed-jet saws, but a multitude more don't have any problems whatsoever with them.  Probably about the same could be said of most any make/model of saw.

It sounds like it you have a slightly lean LS screw. Try turnign it out a small amount and see if it helps. Also be aware that a impulse line issue or air leak can cause these symptoms. How old is the saw?

Nick you got a few fellows telling you lean mixture due to either leaks or adjustment. The question about whether it was a recent development could be key. From your description, being that it starts well and accellerates ok and idles well initially at start up, I think it is slightly on the Rich side with Low speed mixture. Fuell starts to pool a bit in the base after a bit of time and when you tilt or move it sloshes and floods. The Masdens site on carb tuning is good.

Guys, thanks for the great help. This saw might be 1.5 years of heavy use old. It has been like this for like 2 months now. I don't remember if it was just like this when I started using this, or if it's been getting worse with time.

I'll let you know how it goes after monday!

Okay, we had a rain-day monday, but tuesday I adjusted the saw following what seemed like the consensus advice here: turn out the bottom screw a quarter turn.

It didn't make a bit of difference. Is this something that could take a while for me to notice the difference? I used it all morning like that, then turned it like a half turn (!) more. When I did that, it just wouldn't stay running. It was like before, but even more so. I turned it back a quarter turn, which means at the end of the day, it was a half turn further out then before the day began.

Any other advice?

Yah Nick, try turning the low speed jet in a bit; you have tried the other direction, so bracket the setting. I think the symptoms sound a tad rich so turn it in a bit and try. You should see the results in seconds.
