I looked at a dead elm tree a few weeks ago which had been a referral from another client. The homeowner knew the tree was going to be a PITA. I bid it high because I knew that I'd have to haul the wood about a half hour away to pay to dump it. I figured the cost to dump would have been roughly $200, plus paying some money to a buddy to have him truck it up there with his big trailer and FEL. So I was told the other day that I have the job. Well I was in the neighborhood today and stopped at the nursery which is right across the street from the house. I asked the owner if he'd take the chips... sure. So I was happy, even though I have other nearby dump spots... across the street is across the street. Then he said those words that I long to hear.... "I'll take the wood." He even offered to come over and get it himself.
Some years ago I was taking down a bunch of hemlocks, when the nextdoor neighbor (an older Jamaican lady) came over and said "I take de wood mon." She even sent her kids over to get it. I brought her a lot of junk over the next year or two.
I'll say this, it's nice to have chip and wood dump spots... but it's REALLY nice to find people who will take the junk.
