my hitting splitting/wedge driver is a splitting maul cost me 200,hickory handle31".made by gransfors bruks ab sweeden,i would highly recomend it for any one involved with felling.i didnt buy it to split wood, its a safety item you can drive a wedge in faster than any other hammer ive used, 20 yr guarantee.should have "using a decent driver in your falling" write up daniel.

rob i have two of those but they say stihl on them but made by the same company. it is a nice splitter but have'nt really used it yet. i also have the regular axe quit a bit. heres a picture of them.
what i like about the spliter is the wedge shape to it.

That Fiskars/Stihl axe head seems way too light...1 3/4 lbs. would not give enough driving power for my needs. How heavy is the bigger splitting head?

not much hevier than that thats why i asked if they where really any good for driving wedges. o.k i just did a quick wieght check on my digital bathroom scale the regular axe is 1.5 pounds the splitting axe is 2 pounds. i really cant see useing one for driving wedges. the one i use for driving wedges is 3.25 pound head with a yellow plastic handle.

huski,

buy one when you have the extra dollars you wont look back

For enough slam to drive wedges a 2.5 to 3 lb singlebit is a must. for smaller lift and the versatility I use the Sandvik prybar/pounder.

Hey JP, when I saw that image I thought "Well, Gerber's got Fiskars making their axes for them".  Then I followed the link and at the bottom of the page:  "© 2004 Gerber Legendary Blades, a Fiskars Brands Company"

The only product in that line that I like is the hatchet (which I have).  All the others have too short handles for the applications, for my taste.
