I am collecting parts for a dump trailer build. A pair of axles came up on Craigslist, I am thinking they are 7-8k axles. Anybody have a better idea on if they are? Owner said they cam off a 8x14 flatbed trailer. Been stored in shed for a few years. Tires are shot.

Sometimes there is a small metal tag welded or riveted to the axles. Might be hard to find on them old rusty ones. If you buy them keep in mind someday you will need to replace the springs so I would measure them and make sure they are still available. This might also give you a better idea on the weight of them. Might wanna price new tires while you are at it. I buy used stuff all the time and keeping it moving can be a pain when you have no idea where it came from or what it came off of.

He said everything worked when pulled. But I am sure brakes will need to be gone thru. No experience with electric brakes. Other disadvantage is he is about 2 1/2 to 3 hours away. But, price seems right.

I will haul skid loader, with 7' bucket, that is around 7500 pounds. Also hauling scrap appliances, that is why need 8' wide. The usual load in my 16' flatbed loaded with scrap appliances is 2 1/2 ton.

Also gravel and firewood.

they look like 7000Lb, 6 leafs are 3500Lb each. axle should be 3" dia. Looks like a good buy. If you have to replace the brakes, just buy backing plates & all. should be 12" drums also.

Yup couldn't live anywhere else. I'm a junior at central Lyon myself and while I hate how they get the money I can't argue that it isn't put to good use when donated to schools. Besides I have noticed a lot higher theft rate and more scum around since it was built

Well, not sure it has anything do to the casino, but it is the class of people moving in the area.

Most of the cars in the parking lot are from across the border. Finally getting some of the SoDak $$$ coming back into Iowa.

Anyway.....back to the OP

I would jump on those axles in a heartbeat! That being said, if they are not what YOU need then no. I would be fine with 6k axles. The trailer you propose should weigh in around 2k leaving aprox. 10 k for load. This based on 6k axles. Will you be hauling more than 10k? When I build my next dump trailer I am going to build it deck over instead of low profile. The low build tends to spread the load more , especially with firewood. I think the the higher trailer would help keep it more in a pile. Just some thoughts to share.
