How long will mixed gas last before it degrades to a point where it is no longer any good?
I know there are additives in the mix oil to stablize/extend the life of the gas, but I also know it won't last forever.

How long can that mixed gas sit out in the shed 'til ya gotta waste it?

I understand that metal gas can are much better at preserving gas than plastic, unfortunatly they are usually bigger than most people want to use for pre-mix. So, whenever I buy gas, I always add Stabil to the big gas cans, then when I use it in a smaller can for 2 stroke gas, it already has the stabilizer in it. I can never tell where or when the gas is going to be used or in what equipment. I also don't know how long it may remain in that peice of equipment, so using stabilzer always, insures that I afford at least a little protection. This may seem like overkill, but it works for me. Keeping your fuel in a cool, dry and dark area for storage should keep it for 6/8 weeks.I use premium fuel which may have a longer shelf life due to higher octane but really can't say for sure.

One thing I consider very inportant is not placing fuel containers on a concrete floor between use,IMO it attracts moisture/condensation.

It depends on the region and the gas brand, gas has additives in it and typically is mixed with alcohol. Moisture and light hydrocarbon evaporation is what u have to be wary of Butch. If that customer offers you some gas from the garden shed it’s better to say no thanks. How did that crane job go today?

For non off season storage I prefer to play it safe. I tell our customers 30 days. Set a date, first weekend of the month or whatever is easy for you to remember. Dump the remaining fill can fuel in your gas powered car or truck and mix up a fresh batch.

That way you never waste any fuel and you know your never going to have old stale fuel. Of course good storage habits such as keeping the cap and vent sealed and storing in the shade (preferably a cool area) go along with keeping fuel up to snuff.

With Stihl, book says 90 days. I don't think metal or plastic has any affect, if there is moisture, there is moisture. Sometimes I think it came right from the pump anyways.

i would agree .. a friend of mine was siphoning gas from his car not long ago..
gallon jug was 1/4 water and his car was running alrite..it ll make u think..
now as to gas going bad ,,theres been to much written about it ,,to doubt it... but i recently had to take an old festiva out of retirement.. it had set 2 yrs ..
cranked up an run just fine until i could get to the pump.. dont laugh at my old festiva fellas .. thats my flea market car.. im also going to put out about 300 flyers
at my target customers houses .. it wont hardly cost any gas.. besides them ladies see me unfold out that car ,,it ll get their attention..:) :) its actually got plenty of rm..

I guess putting the 2 cycle in a vehicle doesn't hurt anything? What if it is a newer vehicle? I've heard this mentioned before but am pretty sceptical.

Thanks,
Doug

i guess i am little over protective of my motors
first i never go past 30 days period which doesnot happen to much because when i am running saws i go threw so much fuel that i have to get fuel ever other day. only use high test that i believe in full with a good oil. i would sooner pay a couple bucks more to have my saws work great than have trouble
and siverblue you are right you do need to watch what is in the fuel like oxegon inriched fuel we have up here because if you have one high test with oxogen inriched fuel and one without it
both have the same 94 octone reading
the saw motor will detonate on the oxegon inriched gas alot sooner than it will on the fuel that is not
i have done alot of dyno work on 2 strokes and you will have to richen up the motor on oxegon inriched fuel or burn down the engine but i am not sure if you guys in the states have the same fuel or not
