I've read past threads regarding ball/flex hones and what sizes should be used for a bore, but I need some clarification...before I order mine. I've read that a size 10% bigger than your bore should be used...or did I understand it wrong. Mine is for my 044 (50mm + 10% = 55mm), so a 2 1/8" (54mm) size hone would be the one to use. I've also read that a hone is slightly oversized already, so in my case use the 2" (50mm). Or is it that the hones are actually 10% larger than the size they are labelled...which size for my 044?

BTW, Bailey's now have them for sale on their web site...in Aluminum Oxide, 240 grit or Silicon Carbide, 320 grit.

bailey's lists the proper hone to use based on your bore size. i'd trust them....

True enough. Just thought I'd ask and see if someone had another answer or opinion.

54mm will be a bit much for the 044 a 2" (51mm) will work fine for it,,,, I did an 046 with my 54MM and it was really tight BTW... The Silicone carbide is best for chrome or nikasil plated bores,,, use lots of lube @ about 300-500 rpm oscillating the entire time and spin on the way out makes for a nice finish,,,, dont over do it just a few seconds, then purple clean and rinse with hot soapy water inspect and hit it a little again if needed,,, You can always do a bit more,,,if needed,,, ya cant put any plating back on :monkey: :monkey: :monkey:
