Hi guys;
Just want to ask a question about a bar for a 7900. I bought an Arborpro 20" bar, .375 by .050 and it works great when I can get it adjusted right.
The problem is it seems to ride loose on the bolts and moves as much as 2 inches up or down. Getting the chain adjusted correctly is a nightmare. Is this a common problem with the 7900's? I like the bar and once everything is adjusted it runs great and stays put.
I have a husky 353 and their bar seems to fit pretty well on the bolts without much play one way or the other.
Is this the wrong bar for this saw? I specified Dolmar when ordering it and the bar size for the 6400 and the 7900 are the same.
The slot size was spec'd at .355 for this bar. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks for all the great advice.
Greg

Sounds like you might have gotten a Husky small mount bar.
Does the chain tensioning hole line up correctly?
I have never had this problem with a proper bar.
3/8 and .50 should be correct.

(I revised this, I dont think a husky small mount bar would fit.)

When you put the cover on, loosely, and adjust the chain tension, everything is OK?
I wouldn't worry about it, in that case.
Which bar is it? Baileys would know.

.355 is the correct slot size for the large Husky mount, that these Dolmars use.

Maybe it is a quality control issue - have you measured the slot?

Obviously something is wrong here. This is not normal or correct.

Is the bar seating fully on the bar studs, so it sits snug against the saw body? When the bar is mounted up but before the cover is reinstalled, is there a visible gap/play between the bar and studs?

Do you have any other bars that mount up and seat properly to compare to the ArborPro bar that is giving you trouble?

7900 bar

if you ordered a .375 bar they may have took that as slot size, sounds like that is what you have and thats for larger mount Olympic, Jonsered, homelite,ect., send it back and get correct one, thats to much movement.

I also thought of that, but he did say that the slot was listed as .355,
not .375.....

he said the bar size was spec'd at .355 but not that he had checked if it was., .355 is the correct size for that saw but with that much play he must have the wrong bar. ;)

Yes, I asked him to measure it a few posts back (#3).....

It could be a quality control issue, either related to production or labelling.

hte TIP of my bar moves an inch or 2 up and down. Is this waht you are tlaking about?????

if so, tighten adjusting screw, lift tip of bar as far as it will go, and tighten adjusting screw some more.
then lock down nuts while still holding tip up.

dolmar 7900 bar

Hi guys;
Thanks for getting back so promptly. Sorry I haven't responded until now but I was away. The bar was ordered as a .375 pitch but it may have been mistaken by the shipper as the slot size . I will check that. There was another 20" bar that came with it that was used pretty hard by all the renters that used that saw. Gosh I never thought about checking it against that. You guys have been a great help.
Incidentially if you have a 6400 and want to go to the 7900 it would be way worth your while. I did it and opened up the muffler and this saw flat out kicks a$$. Will get back to you on the size of the slot.
Thanks again.
Greg

dolmar 7900 bar

Just another quick note. The bar was gotten from Bailey's . I should call them and ask about that. The bar bolts are the proper size. I think the problem is the slot. The adjuster pin fits into the bar as it should and everything else lines up. The old bar did not have near that much play in the slot ,as looking at it now that has to be what it is. Thanks again guys.
