Substitite one brand for another brand of bar oil. Done. A substitute. Spray it all over the place. It won't hurt anything.

Used oil, on the other hand, should be burned. It will leave the contaminants behind and get that carbon back where it belongs, fast.

If you have ever had to clean a saw after people ran cooking oil you would never ever consider using it.....the stuff polymerizes making it a real pta to clean off.

That's why I stopped running veggie oil as bar oil. Wasn't a big deal getting the polymerized oil off the bar and chain, but it was polymerized all over the cooling fins too, had to be interfering with cooling. Took multiple applications of oven cleaner to remove.

Anyone ever tried Restaurant canola deep fryer oil 35 pound jug / 5gal. for $34
Yes. Works well. If you have an adjustable oiler, set it for max flow. It is all I use now. Canola oil is supposed to be better for you than engine oil when you breathe in the micro-droplets in the air spun off the bar. Also supposed to be better for the environment where those droplets land. Is it good to be breathing in any oil? I doubt it, but hopefully canola oil is less harmful. Funny thing is that I think the main use for canola oil is in industry and not in the food industry.

Another potential new use for canola oil is in tape and glue. Researchers have developed a patent-pending, canola oil-based adhesive that replaces adhesives containing toxic chemicals. It’s even cheaper to make than conventional glue.

I did not search out the percentage of various usages of canola oil but found this. Just amusing the above sentence, I see bio diesel often called renewable diesel has canola as an approved source ingredient.

Canola oil (rapeseed) was used as motor oil in WW2. Probably fine for bar oil. It was Canada that made it "edible" because after the war there wasnt much need for it and their farm industry was invested. Voila!! Engine oil is now cooking oil.... No thanks.
