I agree Chip. I have had no problems with my Echo units using the 2 cycle oil from Walmart. I buy the gallon size and mix 4 oz to the gallon (32 to 1).

As for bar oil. Bar oil is a NON DETERGENT oil with a thickening additive such as STP. Get a little bar oil on your thumb and you forefinger, touch, then separate and the separation will leave stringy residue. This prevents the oil from slinging off the bar and chain (some).

So, with this in mind, I get the cheapest NON DETERGENT oil I can find and then get STP and mix until it is somewhat tacky.

Most motor oils are high detergent and will not get very tacky when STP is added, besides, they cost more. Almost all of your cheap, cheap oil is non detergent.

I agree been using walmart brand oils and that poulan oil they have for about 10 years now no issues.... Its all the same :censored: in my opinion...

I don't remember who, but some one on this site said that the Walmart brand bar oil and Stihl bar oil are the same stuff.

Its like a grocery store or anything else made by same company but different labels you pay for the name on the jug basically....

The purpose of bar oil is to keep lubrication on the bar/chain/sprocket. All brands that I have ever seen do this.

I do not use it myself unless I am in a area that has blow sand (dust storms several times yearly). I find little more wear with a cheap non detergent oil than the inconvenience of a gallon jug bar oil plus the extra cost.

I had a shop and do all my repair.

The stuff is a great deal for the money. I've used some of Bailey's discontinued 24-28 & 32" bars for 3 yrs. now. Those Sthil's are still running perfectly on the Mix oil. No problemo !!!!!!:) :)

I've tried the Walmart stuff, but kept burning up long bars on stump cuts. Switch to Stihl bar oil no more problems.

I also run Stihl's ultra synthetic pre-mix oil, very expensive, but no more clogged or oil residue on the muffler screen. Also premium fuel to stop pre-ignition.

We go through about 5 gals. of premix and 2 gals. of bar oil every week.
Use pro-quality supplies on pro saws.
