Any ideas? Here are the symptoms. Starts easily enough but it needs half throttle to start and to run at all. To get enough RPM's out of it to get the rollers turning (auto feed) I have to run it at full throttle but with the choke half on! It is just enough to take material but it is slow. It seems like it is starving for fuel, hence the need for choking it, I changed the fuel filter, not sure where to go next. Is it a mechanical fuel pump? Could that be bad or could it be a float issue? Anybody have any experience with these symptoms.

It is snowing today and I have no shop to work on it in so I am just trying to come up with ideas.

Thanks!

Pull the air cleaner off and make sure the choke is opperating like it should.

your note getting enough fuel. Pulling the choke is restricting the air flow. Check your fuel filter and then you go to the carbuerator remove the bowl and check for varnish buildup or debris in the main jet. More than likely it is in the carb.

If it is a mechanical fuel pump it will be on one of the valve covers. I have seen them break internaly. It operates off the rocker arm. If it is a vacuum operated fuel pump ( mounted on the flywheel shroud) I have seen them stop working from oil level being to full covering up the vacuum port on the back of the engine (by crank shaft). I would also take carb. off and clean it out and check the jets. There is no gaskets in carb. just a o-ring. You may need a base gasket and a air cleaner gasket. Do you have spark to both cyls. ,plugs good , compression ect...

Thanks for the suggestions. i just wanted to give a follow up in case ithelps somebody else. I have been running the chipper in its compromised state for a while because I have been busy but I finally got it looked at.

I feel stupid. It was just water in the gas. I have one of those fuel caps with a float and a gauge that tells you your fuel level, and it lets water in.

Flushed out the system and it runs better than new now. Just thought I would pass it along as something to check if anyone has similar issues.
