First milling of the season, a piece of beech. Unfortunately when it was cut down most of the trunk was discarded, the piece I wound up with had less than three feet of clear trunk.
Older beech trees around here get pretty huge in girth, probably the biggest trees in the city. This one was not especially big, but I got several nice pieces and my buddy took home the same amount. Some interesting spalting going on as well.
I was not happy with the cutting action of my saw, it was a struggle. The beech is a pretty hard wood for me, it really exposed my poor raker work! Plus several of my saws gave me starting grief. Not a very auspicious start to the fall cutting season!
